According to BBC Sport, Arsenal FC officials were in Abuja in December 2011 to inspect facilities and discuss the modalities of the proposed tour with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Validating the tour, Arsenal’s marketing director Angus Kinnear told BBC that;

“Everything is right on track. Nigeria will happen; we had a successful meeting and covered a lot of ground.

It’s very important to get the right message across to the fans in West Africa and the entire continent.

There is a strong desire to connect with our fans in Africa and the first step starts in Nigeria,” he said.

During a visit to The Emirates Stadium base of the club last week, FIFA-Licensed match agent David Omigie of DanJan Sports, the organizers of the proposed tour said; “This is very big because Arsenal has got a huge fan base in Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa.

It was very important to meet others from different departments of the club and everyone is excited with the trip to Nigeria.”
