That is their custom. As long as it is not mine, and that they don’t force it on visitors amongst them, I don’t have a problem with that. As the wrath of the ancestors, that is only for those who believe.

Customs and every deadly traditions are made by wicked men/women which they want people to obey, but they refused to obey the LORD’S 10 commandments. Nonsense.

It’s silly and unreasonable to command every male to shave his hair irrespective of his religion. They should understand that African tradition is basically rooted in its religion and worship, while Christianity is rooted in tradition and practices led down by Christ irrespective of ethnicity and tribe. Even Muslims have their traditions and practices rooted in what were led down by prophet Mohammed. The earlier people understand that the better for our peaceful coexistence.

@Hunter, if they bury their kings with human heads–and I bet they do–then that, in deed, is seriously barbaric. But since the question is not yet about losing your head but just your hairs, I am not offended with it, as it were. And again, if they leave people to freely comply at will, then I do not think that propriety has been breached. It is only when they compel every male, including strangers amongst them, to abide by that ritual order, that we may speak of it as a barbaric thing.

The reason why they want every Benin male to shave their heads is to distinguish those who are not of Benin origin so they can get as many heads as they need to bury the king. It is unfortunate that in this day and age while other people/nations are progressing, in Nigeria the reverse is the case. Like Maryf said “they refuse to obey the 10 commandments but obey the deadly wicked traditions”. It is a shame. Why prevent others not to bury their dead until the king is buried? Why mandate every male in Benin and abroad to clean shave their hair? Travelers should please avoid spending the night in Benin as spending the night in Benin at this time will be at your own risk. May God help us in that country.
