The ancient town of Ile Ife in Osun State Nigeria was in the early hours of Tuesday the 1st of July 2014 thrown into a state of pandemonium after a bomb exploded in strategic areas of the city.
According to sources from Ile Ife, two bomb planted in key locations at Agbedegbede area of Ife exploded around 5:30am in the morning leaving residents in shock.
Though no death was reported but the blast destroyed millions of naira in properties.
Osun Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maishanu who visited the explosion scene said the explosive devices was planted at night by some suspected terrorists.
The bomb was said to have affected a house in the area, damaging the roof of the building. It was also learnt that explosive devices were detected by the anti-bomb unit of the state Police Command, as members of the unit combed the area.
Osun State Government has condemned the explosion describing it as unfortunate.
The state commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere, urged the people of the state to remain calm, saying the government would not allow any threat to the peace of the state.
