Chief Judge Forgives Criminal Who Attacked Her Inside Court In Akure Ondo State
Nov 12, 2015 – Chief Magistrate Forgives Criminal Who Attacked Her Inside Court In Akure Ondo State
A serving Chief Magistrate in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Mrs Yetunde Ajanaku has offered to rehabilitate a 24-year-old man, Benjamin Akinyemi who assaulted her in the course of her official duty.
Akinyemi was said to have assaulted the Chief Magistrate on June 16, prompting his eventual arrest by the police.
He was consequently charged to court the following day.
However, when the case came up for hearing Thursday, the Magistrate said she would want the case withdrawn as the man had shown enough remorse and was being rehabilitated by her.
The charge preferred against Akinyemi read: “That you Benjamin Akinyemi on the 16th of June at about 06:30 at Odi-Olowo street Akure in the Akure Magisterial district did unlawfully assault Chief Magistrate Ajanaku Yetunde and thereby committed offence contrary to and publishable under section 351 of the criminal code cap 37 vol 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.”
However, the Chief Magistrate, who was slated to give evidence against the accused, said she had since forgiven him because of her calling to help rehabilitated such persons in the society.
