Cholera Outbreak in Benue: 5 People Killed

MAKURDI—NO fewer than five persons were feared dead in an outbreak of cholera at Aku village in Okokolo district of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
More than 40 others have also taken ill as a result of the disease and are said to be in critical conditions.
Vanguard gathered that the entire local government area is at the risk of the disease which is spreading to the various districts and villages.
The Caretaker Chairman of the Council, Mr. Yusuf Ogole, has called on the state Ministry of Health to come to aid of the council to combat the outbreak, saying that the council lacked the capacity to tackle the disease.
In a statement, Ogole confirmed the outbreak and said the council had run out of drugs to check the menace.
He confirmed one death and admitted that over 40 others were lying critically ill at the Aku hospital.
He said: “We have exhausted our drugs and vaccines in the treatment of infected. We plead with the Ministry of Health to step into the matter to stem the outbreak.”
