Edo 2012: Battle Continues for ACN Deputy Governorship Seat

Aug 23, 2011 – Edo 2012: Battle Continues for ACN Deputy Governorship Seat  By SIMON EBEGBULEM

BENIN CITY—THERE were indications, yesterday, that the battle for the ticket of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, for the 2012 governorship race may not be a problem for Governor Adams Oshiomhole but that of deputy governor, Dr. Pius Otubu may face an uphill task.

There are, however, fears among supporters of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the state and particularly fans of Governor Oshiomhole that the Edo State-born business mogul and one of the financiers of ACN in the 2007 elections, Captain Osa Okunbor ,may join the governorship race.

It was learnt that the Edo billionaire who is currently under pressure to join the race from the top echelon of the PDP in Abuja, is still consulting with his family and business associates.

Vanguard, however, learnt that the battle for the deputy governorship ticket would be a fierce one.

Some of those likely to battle it  out with Dr Odubu include the South South National Vice-Chairman of the ACN, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, former Commissioner for Lands during the administration of Governor Lucky Igbinedion, Prince Efosa Akenzua, current Political Adviser to Governor Oshiomhole, Charles Idahosa, and several others.

Vanguard was reliably informed that aides of one of the contenders, are now scared of eating in his ever busy house after he was sighted in the home of a native doctor.

It was said that the traditional doctor had allegedly requested for  sacrifice after the doctor informed him that it would be difficult for him to bag the ticket.

Vanguard further learnt that a section of the Christian community in the state who knew about the belief of this particular politician had vowed to stop his bid, and were, therefore, preparing to visit the governor to inform him that he might lose the support of the Christian community if the person emerged as his deputy in the ACN primaries.
