June 19, 2012 – Man Jailed For Setting Sharia Court On Fire

The Katsina State Police Command has arraigned Ahmad Musa before a Katsina Chief Magistrates’ Court III for arson.

Musa was accused of burning down the Funtua Upper Shariah Court on June 4.

Police prosecutor Okolo Usman told the court that the accused carried out the offence at about 7.45a.m. contrary to Section 337 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor said as a result of the action of the accused, the building and all documents of the court were completely burnt.

Chief Magistrate Nuraddeen Jikamshi had asked Musa whether he understood the charge against him to which he answered in the affirmative.

The plea of the accused was however not taken, but the magistrate directed that he be remanded in prison custody.
