Sunday August 7, 2011 – Nigerian Air Force Arrests 21-year old Navy Impersonator

Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Navy identity cards with fake staff numbers were recovered from the suspect.

The 107 Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force, Lagos, on Friday, paraded a 21-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a soldier.

The Commander, Group Captain Emmanuel Akinbayo, who paraded the suspect in Lagos, said that he was arrested on July 29 at Obalende.

He said that the military police of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army arrested the suspect in an eatery while he was wearing a fatigue camouflage with an Air force badge.

Akinbayo said that Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Navy identity cards with fake staff numbers were also recovered from the suspect.

The commander said the suspect claimed that he stole the uniform from his uncle, who is an Air Force personnel, in Niger State and used to evade transport fares.

He also said the suspect admitted to have stolen the identity cards from the uncle.

The suspect, according to the commander, was a commercial motorcyclist and he used the cards to avoid extortion by social miscreants.

Akinbayo urged military personnel to watch out for those who impersonated them to perpetrate crimes.

“Not all men we see around on military outfits are genuine, some are imposters,” he said. by Daily Times
