Enugu State police officials have arrested 7 suspected kidnappers accused of defiling and killing a Reverend Sister after kidnapping over 10 Reverend Fathers, bus passengers, pastors and politicians.
The kidnappers were nabbed at Ugwuaji forest in Enugu by anti-kidnapping squad after the men of the underworld kidnapped several people along Enugu/Port Harcourt in one daring operation.
The suspects operated from a camp in Akwuke forest where they hide most of their victims. They were also accused of operating at Ndude Seminary where they have allegedly kidnapped over 10 Rev. Fathers, who were taken to their Ugwaji forest camp.
List of the suspects in Police custody
- 27-year-old Haruna Ibrahim
- 37-year-old Abubakar Abdullahi
- 27-year-old Sunday Selbon Melven
- 25-year-old Onyedika Okafor
- 28-year-old Lawal Sule
- 29-year-old Bello Mohammed
- 25-year-old Bello Musah Shehu
They all hailed from Sokoto, Plateau, Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau,Kano and Enugu state.
“Based on several petitions on the activities of the suspects, I have to order the commander anti-kidnapping squad – said Supol Alex Akinlalu who led his men to round up the kidnappers on March 19, at the Ugwuaji forest.
Haruna Ibrahim, one of the suspects told police that the group has never killed anyone.
“We have two groups in Enugu State. We only collect ransom from the family of our victims, we don’t kill people.” “We have kidnapped a Rev Father at 9th mile and took him to Ugwuaji forest where he spent just two days after we collected N250,000 from him. Also, we kidnapped a pastor at Obiorre Udi old road and collected a ransom of N150,000. Another suspect, Bello Mohammed stated: “Our Owu group took a bus passenger into Ugwuaji forest and collected N200,000 from him before we released him.” –
The suspects are awaiting trial.
