It was gathered that immediately the suspects sighted the presence of the police they quickly abandoned the baby and fled the church.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali told reports that the police recovered the baby following a tip off from the public. His men had stormed the church in the middle of the dedication ceremony.

CP Ali explained that the mother of the child, one Mrs. Precious Egwuchukwu had gone for a church vigil at Nnampi Oru West Local Government Area of the state with her one-year old baby girl. In the course of the vigil, two armed men stormed the church on a motorcycle and forcefully snatched the baby away.

Speaking with our reporter, the mother of the child said: “I am very happy over the recovery of my daughter, Febechukwu. I went to a vigil on March 28, 2014. After the prayer session, I laid my one -year old baby on the ground with other children. I was then going to the toilet when suddenly I saw two armed men who stormed the church on a motorcycle and forcefully snatch the baby away.”

Mrs. Egwuchukwu then went to Oru Police Station to lodge complaint over the missing girl. “It was a terrible experience in my life. I started praying to God that one day I will see my child.

“I got information from the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali who sent for me. When I got there, he asked me to check if one of the recovered children was mine. When I got there, it was my child that they recovered on April 28, 2014,” she explained with joy.

The police commissioner further explained that the police were able to recover the stolen child because the kingpin of the kidnap gang had been arrested and in police custody.
