May 9, 2014 – Police Arrest Husband Who Attacked Wife Over Sex Denial In Oshodi Lagos

A Lagos-based business man identified as Nicholas Inyang has been arrested over a brutal attack on his wife who denied him sex.

Nicholas Inyang, a 28-year-old man was charged before Oshodi Magistrate Court in Lagos state and reprimanded in prison custody for the alleged offence.

The incident occurred at #8 Salami street in Mafoluku area of Oshodi, the residence of the couple.

Imaobong alleged that she met Inyang in Lagos and they started living together as husband and wife without formalising the union.

She lamented that though the relationship has produced children, Inyang has refused to pay her bride price to her family. Instead he was planning to impregnate her again against her wish.

Responding to the allegation, Inyang insisted that Imaobong was already his wife and she has no right to deny him sex because they have been living together as a couple for many years and they have two kids together.

The suspect told the court that he was not ready to meet her family because he can’t afford her bride price.

He complained that Imaobong has become stubborn and does not obey him again despite promising to pay the bride price when he has money.

She said Inyang has stopped providing for the upkeep of the family, leaving her to take care of their children alone.

She also alleged that because she denied him sex, Inyang assaulted her and she had to be taken to a hospital for treatment.

When the matter was reported to the police at Makinde Division, the suspect was arrested and charged to court with assault and negligence under the Criminal Code.

Inyang pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He was, however, remanded in prison custody pending when he would fulfill his bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned till 13 May.
