Robert Mugabe’s Wife Campaigns For Dying Husband, Says His Corpse Will Contest For Election

One of the oldest living presidents in Africa, Robert Mugabe is dying.

The elderly President who will turn 93 on Tuesday has slowed down on public engagements while his 51-year-old wife has become increasingly visible in politics

Grace Mugabe said her husband should run “as a corpse” in next year’s election if he dies before the vote.

Mrs. Mugabe accused some ruling ZANU-PF party officials of plotting to take over from her husband and said that even if he dies, supporters should put his name on the ballot to show their love for him.

“If God decides to take him, then we would rather field him as a corpse,” she told thousands of cheering supporters at a rally in Buhera in eastern Zimbabwe yesterday. She spoke in the local Shona language.

Mugabe has been in power since 1980 and he is not showing any sign of quitting politics.
