July 27, 2014 – Why Do Nigerians Use Fake Foreign Accents?
Just landed in one village in Buffalo NY for my birthday coming up in few days time. Had the opportunity to reconnect with a couple of friends and we put together a trip to Niagara falls.
On getting there this afternoon, I noticed the same thing I have always noticed, all of us find it very hard to speak with our natural accents.
Though am a victim of this fake accent syndrome, I must admit I didn’t do it on purpose, it has suddenly become a part of me.
Since I moved back home few years ago, I’ve always struggle with the same issue.
Let me throw this question to you guys… Why do we find it very hard to use our natural accents?? Is it inferiority complex or are we trying to adapt.

I don’t think it is a big deal as long as you are not overdoing it. It happens everywhere.

I have a big brother in Atlanta his own is so bad we have to beg him to speak naturally but he couldn’t change
His own case is adaptation, he believe if he speak like dem, he will make it and it worked for him
