Akwa Ibom Police Parades Murderer of Son, Kidnapper Of Vice Chancellor & Ritualist
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command made a significant breakthrough on Friday as they paraded Aniekan James, a resident of Ikot Ndot village in Ukanafun Local Government, who is accused of murdering his own son, Odudu Aniekan James, aged 35. This shocking crime has sent shockwaves through the community and left many questioning what could drive a father to such a heinous act.
Addressing the media during the parade, the State Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durusinmi, revealed that Aniekan James had a history of violence, having previously committed similar murders in Lagos and Abia States. The arrest of the suspect was made possible by the diligent efforts of the operatives from the Ukanafun Police Division, who apprehended him on June 16, 2023.
“On 16/06/2023, one Aniekan James of Ikot Ndot village in Ukanafun L.G.A was arrested by Ukanafun Division for shooting his 35-year-old only son, Odudu Aniekan James, who had been engaged in an ongoing conflict with him. The suspect, a habitual murderer, has previously committed murders in Lagos and Aba Abia State,” Commissioner Durusinmi stated, shedding light on the disturbing background of the accused.
In addition to the shocking case of patricide, the Commissioner also highlighted the successful resolution of a high-profile kidnapping. The victim, a Vice Chancellor of a private university, was abducted on his way home by his former domestic staff, who had been dismissed due to criminal tendencies. However, thanks to the swift and discreet investigation conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, the abductor was apprehended along with two accomplices. The police successfully recovered the remaining ransom of over N2 million and the Toyota Corolla used in the operation, reuniting the Vice Chancellor with his family.
“On the 14th of April 2023, at about 10:30 am, the Vice-Chancellor of a private University in the State was kidnapped on his way home. Two days later, being the 16th, in a prompt and discreet investigation, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Command, arrested one Prince Thursday Okon, a former domestic staff of the VC, sacked because of his criminal tendencies, who masterminded the kidnapping, and two of his gang members, Saviour Sunday Luke and Richard Friday, all of Ikot Ebam Village in Mkpan Enin LGA,” Commissioner Durusinmi revealed.
During the operation, a significant amount of the ransom, totaling one million, two hundred and seventy thousand naira, was recovered, while an additional two hundred and fifty thousand naira was traced to one of the suspects’ accounts. Furthermore, the police successfully located and retrieved the Toyota Corolla that had been used in the abduction. The Vice Chancellor, relieved to be back with his family, expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by the police.
In another shocking incident, the police paraded Edu Udeme Ime, a suspected ritualist, who was found in possession of a human skull. The arrest was made by operatives of the Quick Response Squad of the command at Urua Ekpa Junction. Ime was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for why he had a human skull in his possession, only mentioning the name of the ring leader, who is believed to be a notorious ritualist.
“On 15/05/2023, at about 8:05 pm, one Edu Udeme Ime of Mbak Etoi village, Uyo, was arrested at Urua Ekpa Junction by the command’s Quick Response Squad for being in possession of a human skull. The suspect could not provide a reasonable explanation for his possession of the human skull but did mention the name of the ring leader, who is known to be a ritualist,” Commissioner Durusinmi disclosed, emphasizing the commitment of the police in combating ritualistic practices.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has once again demonstrated its dedication to maintaining law and order, as well as its commitment to protecting the citizens of the state.
