open letters to all nigerians

March 5, 2016 – An Open Letter To All Nigerians By Nony Modili

DEAR NIGERIANS,
Can we put aside our selfie posts and jokes and look upon our nation? Can we try and put in our mind to this disaster and try to figure out the solution?

Where did we all go wrong? Where did we miss it? Is it From the government, or d masses? Are we following too much, too blind to see that we are being misled or are we really ungovernable?

Is this the Nigeria we all dreamed of? A country where common democracy cannot be practiced. Where the so called leaders can not obey the simple laws set by them. We produce oil but find it hard to explore it. A Country where we pay soo much and get less services, where everything we know and use is topping money by the day and yet our income rate is still the same. Where our children, Education, Roads, and Economy is neglected in the name of political interest and selfishness.

Have we given our best? Is joking with our problems without finding the solution good enough for us? Have we given all hope in Nigeria? Does it mean that we can’t fight or that we are too afraid to even try?

We voted for change, have we seen the soo called change, or is it yet to come? Can we stand and say that we don’t want it any more if its not going the way we planed? Our fathers handed over to us a nation that don’t just compete but also add value to the world economy. Can we at least do the same for our children?

Do we have the power? Can we fight even if its with everything we have got? Do you care that this nation, your nation have turned to be a mockery? Have we become too careless that we don’t know that we are loosing everything?

A little work put together makes a great work. If Nigeria will get better, you and i must do all we can to see it happen.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

I REALLY CARE, DO YOU?

  1. How can we have a country when we import more goods than we export? How can we sustain an economy if we mostly rely on crude for revenue generation? How can a country carries out its administrative duties while its politicians are thieves, and grossly incompetent? Why do we still have black market for forex ? President Buhari is just unlucky on two occasions (1983 and now) in 1983, it was after Nigeria had been soiled by NPN and now it was PDP.

  2. First, I want to answer the author first question, “where did we all go wrong?” Sir or Madam, we the people have missed it for so long because of tribalism, hatred for each other, unpatriotic behavior, religion intolerance, lack of common sense, and our celebration of corruption from those that are supposed to protect our collective interests. It only in Nigeria and Africa that people vote and support criminals, looters, and vagabonds because that person happened to be from his/her tribe, religion affliate, same culture, and they speak the same language. When our votes is based mainly on sentiments that are evil before God Almighty nothing get done. For example, I will never cast my vote for former President Olusegun Obasanjo even though he is a Yoruba man. Why? He is the pioneer of corruption and election fraud in Nigeria. A man like that will never get my vote. Until we start electing great leader like Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo, President Mohammed Buhari just to mention a few, we will keep having seroius issues in our local, state, aND the nation at large. The characters, history, experience, and vision of those that we vote as our elected officials matter.

Another interesting question asked by Nony Modil was,”We voted for change, have we seen the so called change, or is yet to come.” It is gross ignorant for anyone to expect PMB to quickly fix what criminals, looters, and vagabonds have successfully destroyed for over 35 years. PMB was sworn in on May 28, 2015 when majority of the states in Nigeria cannot pay their worker’s salaries, when our national security was in shambles, and when our economy was at the brink of total collapse because a Barrel of oil was about $49 then. Today, the crude oil price at the world market is about $22 per barrel, and the international observers predicted that it could go as low as $15 per barrel before the year end. For a nation that derive over 90% of her revenue ftom the sales of crude oil, what did you expect? The writer also failed to mentioned the fact that president Jonathan sold Nigerian oil for about $150/barrel for about 5 years of his 6 years of disastrous regime. Where are all the billions of dollars in surplus from oil revenue when we had the oil bubbles? They all had embezzled the surplus aND totally bankcrupty our national treasure in just 6 years. The Bible says, ” What can the righteous do when the foundation is faulty?” How can PMB perform magic when he was handed over a nation on life support due to corruption, looting, mismanagement, and bad governance? The damages caused by IBB, Obasanjo, Sanni Abacha, Abudulsalam Abubakar, and Badluck Jonathan cannot be undo by anyone in 12 years. PMB inherited from Jonathan administration the worse ever situation as Nigerian President since the independent, let us give this great president the chance, time, and our prayers to help us at this challenging time. When you think is bad now, just imagine what would have befall our beloved nation if that corrupt Jonathan had his way. PMB happen to be the right man as our president at serious and difficult time. So far, the president is doing an excellent job.

  3. The govt is the reason why we are like this today. But the masses are the ones that enabled it, hence they have the chunk of the blame. I am yet to see a people as myopic as Nigerians. Gain at the moment is all that we yearn for. We hardly keep the future in prospect. The polls come and we align ourselves where money is shared. How can somebody mortgage his/her future for just crumbs that fall from a table and expext to have improvement? You can’t eat your cake and have it.

So now that our polititians have seen that we are like Esau that sold his birth right for a piece of meal, they continue offering us food while we keep postponing our future.

  4. How do you expect nigerian to be good why all the companies that can give job to citizen was closed down almost 28 companies, 20 industry extra, instand of refering our oil in nigerian they took it to ivory coast and equtoral geanea for a personal pocket, my brothers and sisters forget anything issues about this country nigerian the best option is to let every nations go and used their own wisdom. final. nigerian was an english country some people claim they are graduate but no wisdom french country are better than them both in all. for example, good roads and eletricity is stead in a french speaking country but nigerian have all it takes but nothing shows up . just think of this.

  5. Poster, any nation or tribe or people that abandons its root end in disaster.until Africans in General discover their root and follows it Africans in General and nigeria in particular will remain under developed.
African problem (I’m using Africa here because what I’m saying affects not only nigeria as a country but Africa as a continent)Africa problem started several years back during the colonial era.the westerners arrive Africa with civilisations, education and religion.our mistake was embracing all of this.we could have embraced only their educaction i.e. mathematics ,physics, chemistry and biology and let them go back with the rest including their religion and their governmental system. That is what the Chinese and the Japanese did and today there are the second and third economies in the world with Japanese technologies being second to non in the world today.
now imagine what would have happened if we had continued with African traditional religion, imagine what would have happened if our past leaders were sworn into office not with bible or Koran but with sango or amadioha (the igbo and Yoruba God of tunder)imagine what would have happened if every Kobe from our oil since 1960 till date is being used wisely for the development of our country.including technological research and development. You and I would have been consulars in our foreign missions refusing this westerners visas to come to nigeria the same way there a’re refusing nigerians today.

    • @ austen, whao that is radical!, the most important part of our existence is the language, the colonials came and stylishly impose their language with which they indoctrinate our forefathers and took away our resources, they were coerced into accepting their religion they demonized our forefathers religions and their culture and heritage. any nation that looses its language has no identity because language is a binding component for cultural and economic development.most distinct race have their languages as the main language in their societies, Jews, Russians, China , Arabs, India to name but few. in all honesty what you said about if the politician were sworn in by traditional way is interesting, again it will be seen as bad by the main religions that are now dominating the landscape of Nigeria and infiltrating the government systems. some even get sponsorship from abroad to subvert our culture and heritage, i dare say that in reality the type of procedure you advocated if put in place could have saved us from the debacle we now face from the unpatriotic elements holding public office.

  6. Whatever! Our country can never be ok unless the corrupt politicians, ogas on top and their cohorts are brought to book.

  7. I think most commenters have cover the main points, however i will add that the key component of good governance is patriotism, Patriotism is the one special ingredient that is missing in the soup so to speak, that is why the soup don’t taste nice, the fact of the matter is that most of our politician go for the office with inherent disposition to loot, most of these people are generally installed by hook or crook, they seek to perpetuate their cronyism by having their own stooges in important sections of the running of the country. the people that are capable and can deliver are sidelined and made to languish in penury. Most office holders are unpatriotic, they do not seek to leave lasting legacy by working on improving life of common man, they will start some flimsy projects to siphon the money and take abroad to the detriment of the nation. The haves terrorize and dehumanize have nots instead of helping out to lift them up.this mindset has gone so deep in our psyche that it will require a major orientation campaign to gradually shift it. Another important dimension is the extent to which religion has had tremendous impact is that we loose so much man hours in these places of worship, which could have been put to good use to the development of human capital which we have in abundance. My uncle travel to China last year and he was so overwhelmed at the things he saw, he said in 3 villages he visited almost every house has a machine producing something no wonder they have so much export capacity and dominating the world. The impact of corruption will be very hard to erase. let us give this new government some encouragement and hope the change promised will manifest soon.

  8. Nigeria went wrong the day it allowed tribalism, religious segregation, hatred, envy & corruption to take over. It will take time to reverse what has been done cos too many waters have crossed the bridge

  9. Danti, let’s call a such spade what it is. My people do say it is only a bad Workman who quarells with his tools .period

  10. The problem of Nigeria is very complex so if we start talking about it . It will not even end in a million years , let’s just pray for God”s guidance .

  11. Hmmmmmmmm is nt easy at all,bt d question is WHO IS READY 2 FIGHT(die?) we are nt blind neither are we deaf d problem is dat we dnt av d power 2 say a word dat is why we are so careless and speechless.

  12. One of the reasons why our white counterpart will continue to be ahead of us is their ability to foresee their future. We black race only think about today and what we can benefit from now but the white people will sit down and think about what will become of them and their future generation and come out with better plan. Our colonial masters have assessed us and came to conclusion that even after given us an independence we cannot govern ourselves and the prediction has come to fruition. I’m personally depressed because global oil price is dwindling down and they are even predicting of fallen oil price as low as $10/barrel. Fellow Nigerians, if our oil is sold for $10/barrel and we have no extra source of income, how do we manage our economy?. We are a doomed nation already because we have wasted our resources on unnecessary things and we want a sudden change for better. Do you think Buhari can a special magic? folks, I think we in a long ride for better change.

  13. NOW THAT OUR POLITICIANS HV SEEN THATWE,RE LIKE ESAU THAT SOLD HIS BIRTH-RIGHT 4 A PIECE OF MEAL , THEY CON OFFERING US FOOD , WHILE WEKEEP POSTPONING OUR FUTURE !!!.EXTRACT FROM METU NYETU. PLES NIGERIANS READ THE ABOVE LINES AGAIN AND AGAIN !.
