Atiku Slams Peter Obi For Leaving The PDP, Calls Him A Coward

At a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, shed light on why his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, left the main opposition party during the build-up to the party’s presidential primary election in 2022. Atiku alleged that Obi left the PDP because he was afraid of the demands of PDP governors.

It will be recalled that on May 27, 2022, Obi, a former Anambra State governor, announced his departure from the PDP for the LP, citing that the LP was the right platform that aligned with his aspirations. In his statement, Obi stated that he had chosen a route that he believed was in line with “our aspirations and my mantra of taking the country from consumption to production.”

Meanwhile, the presidential election that held on Saturday saw Atiku lose to All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Despite the loss, Atiku expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election, which he said had restored the faith of Nigerians in the electoral process.

However, he criticized the ruling APC for what he described as their “divisive and polarizing” campaign tactics, which he said had contributed to the high level of tension and violence in the country in the run-up to the election. He also called on Nigerians to come together and work towards building a united, prosperous and peaceful nation.

Atiku further explained that when the campaign started and PDP governors insisted on producing the presidential and vice presidential candidates among themselves, Obi got scared and left the party. However, Atiku did not back down and fought against the governors, even though some of them were possibly in secondary schools or universities when the PDP was founded. He maintained that he was not afraid of the governors and ultimately won the primary election.
