Outrage As Boko Haram Beheads 11 Wood Loggers In Damboa Borno State

Borno State Witnesses a Brutal Attack on Wood-Loggers by Suspected Terrorists

In a tragic turn of events in Borno State, suspected Boko Haram members, reportedly riding on camels, launched a brutal ambush on local wood-loggers, resulting in the beheading of at least 11 individuals. This heinous act occurred in the Damboa Local Government Area, a region that has witnessed recurrent episodes of violence.

A vigilante group member from the area shared this harrowing information via phone, revealing that the attack took place near Bale, a remote village in Damboa LGA. According to this source, the incident unfolded on Monday, and the dismembered bodies were discovered around 5 pm the same day.

The informant from the local vigilante group recounted the grim scene, “We discovered six bodies initially. These loggers were mercilessly killed by the attackers. Their bodies were dismembered, lying in pools of blood, with body parts scattered around the area.”

The local community, adhering to Islamic rites, quickly organized a burial for the remains of the victims. Despite the initial recovery of six bodies, concerns grew as five individuals remained unaccounted for. The community holds onto hope that these missing persons either escaped or were abducted and might still be alive.

Another vigilante group member provided further details, stating that the loggers were working at their charcoal site when the terrorists, riding on camels, encircled and ruthlessly executed six people on the spot. The attackers reportedly left no room for negotiation or mercy.

According to this vigilante, “The attackers’ footprints led us to the site. We counted about 15 camel footprints. Some loggers managed to flee, leveraging their familiarity with the terrain. We’re hoping they escaped, as camels are not as fast as horses.”

This hope for the escape of the remaining loggers is rooted in the knowledge that the victims knew the local terrain well, possibly giving them an advantage in evading their attackers.

The situation escalated the following morning when additional bodies were discovered, bringing the total count to 11 deceased individuals. Currently, the military and local vigilantes are actively searching the area, combing through the woods in an attempt to find any remaining survivors or confront the perpetrators.

This incident in Borno State is a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing Nigeria, particularly in regions susceptible to terrorist activities. It underscores the need for increased vigilance and enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable communities.

The local vigilantes, serving as the first line of defense and response in these remote areas, play a crucial role in providing timely information and assistance in such dire situations. Their bravery and commitment are pivotal in the ongoing struggle against terrorism and violence in Northeastern Nigeria.

The tragic ambush in Damboa LGA is a somber reflection of the security situation in parts of Nigeria. It highlights the importance of collective efforts between local communities, vigilante groups, and the military to address and counter the threats posed by terrorist groups. As Borno State mourns the loss of its citizens, the resilience and solidarity of its people stand as a beacon of hope in the face of adversity.
