August 16, 2015 – “Buhari And Nigeria Owe Igbos Nothing ” – Junaid Mohammed Fires Back At Ezeife

The Convener of the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, has dismissed the sentiments shared by a former Governor of Anambra State that the Igbo have not been treated fairly in the governance of Nigeria.

Ezeife had argued that President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, who hails from the Igbo-speaking part of Delta State, to head the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, was not enough to satisfy the South-East.

But in an interview with our correspondent on Friday, Mohammed criticised Ezeife, insisting that people of the Igbo nation have enjoyed favourable treatment.

He added it was wrong to reward the Igbo simply on the basis of the Nigerian Civil War, which lasted between 1967 and 1970.

Mohammed said, “If it is about Buhari making the appointments based on merit, I have no problems with it. I don’t believe Buhari or Nigeria owes any Igbo anything. I don’t care what Ezeife says; if they had seceded, there would have been no Nigeria today. As people who acted outside the interest of Nigeria as a country, to expect compensation is a very odd logic.

“If the Igbo don’t like it, they can attempt secession again. If they do, they must be prepared to live with the consequences. Nobody owes them anything and nobody is out to compensate them for anything.”

The doctor-turned-politician also condemned claims that Buhari’s appointment of northerners into key positions in government was done out of ethnic sentiment.

He said, “They (critics) should tell us which ethnic groups have been favoured by Buhari in the course of making his appointments in parastatals and agencies. Those who are making those allegations, particularly the Igbo, have not told us exactly which parastatals.

“For example, an Igbo man has just been appointed as the head of the NNPC, one of the most important government agencies in Nigeria. And over 50 per cent of those appointed before him were also Igbos. So, if people decide to be mischievous, there is nothing anybody can do about it. As far as I am concerned, those appointed have been good and credible persons.”

On reports that Buhari may head the petroleum ministry for the next 18 months, the northern leader stated that there was no living Nigerian at that public level who knew as much about the ministry as Buhari.

According to Mohammed, there is full justification for Buhari to be petroleum minister for as long as he desires.

He added, “Moreover, the consequences of what happens in the oil ministry are so dire. When one looks at the track record of the past minister, one can see what we have to deal with as a country as a result of her being made a minister.

“In fact, I encourage him to retain the defence ministry because we are in a state of war and he is a distinguished retired general who has headed every single division of the Nigerian Army during his service. If he decides to be the defence minister, I would be more than glad.”

@Odinaka, I guess you were not born when the Biafran war broke to see how your people out of fright headed homeward to the East in droves for safety of their lives. Pray it does not happen again otherwise, the East will never again recover from the shock of destructions that’ll trail the second attempt of secetion. Your people have learnt nothing from the last war they lost when they virtually survived on eating grass and domestic rodents and so, continued on the path of earlier mistakes that led them scampering for lost properties scattered all over the country after the war, some of which have remained illusive till date. Odinaka, don’t you see the scars of the Biafran war still looms large on the level of normadic lifestyle and disintegrations your people continue to suffer several years after the war.? Pray it doesn’t happen again, Ok!!!

I****s have long shot themselves in the foot as there seem their political miscalculations embarking on needless civil war has continued to haunt them as a tribe. I***s deliberate attitudes of turning attentions to themselves in an attempt to create a persived persecution of a tribe and eventually making I**** race an everyday topical issues in Nigerian polity is so disgraceful and unacceptable for an aggrieved tribe that think they must occupy a special space in the conscience of Nigeria as a nation after an illegal attempt to disintegrate same state of Nigeria. The people of the East should do a restrospective soul searching of how their so called “best brains” contributed to the mess Nigeria finds itself today under the watchful eyes of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. I****s constituted more than 50% of Jonathan’s most important cabinet positions and as well as political appointments but, no complaints were registered from other major tribes as seen now coming from I****sunder Buhari’s dispensation. I****s incessant complaints of marginalisations and just about everything Nigeria only goes to confirm they’d rather had preferred a disintegrated Nigeria and yet, remains the only major tribe found to want to attract an unneccessary and undeserved political attention and so the reasons why the I***s are in a quagmire of defining their political directions in Nigeria hense, the criticism of everything seen in the interest and progress of Nigeria. I***s should stop complaining because the Nigerian territory they live in today will continue to remain Nigeria forever irrespective of I***s level of dissatisfaction and therefore should recaliberate their mentality to live and cohabit with the rest of Nigerian tribes afterall; I***s are known to be their own worse enemies anyway.

Well spoken! I think Mr Ezeife should be more mature in his statement. Mr president is not through yet with the appointments, I understand that over 500 appointment are yet to be made. Please let us come 2gether and give mr. President all the necessary support to sanitise the nation of corruption and bring the desire change u and I have been clamouring for.

Junaid Mohammed, You should mind your utterances you Boko haram.there will be no consequences if the Igbos secede from Nigeria today. If you had not seen ,Have you not heard that the Igbos want to be on there own because this country can not be taken over by one section of the country. The appointment of the N N P C group managing Director is as a right because no other Tribe has ever been a minister in F C T.except from North. The Igbos fought a civil war and the war was declared no victor no vanquish yet the Igbos have not been given the opportunity to take over the mantle of leadership in Nigeria. The Igbos lost their propperties during the war, their houses were destroyed yet they were not compensated for their losses.their monies in the Banks were not paid back rather N10 000 was paid to any Ibo man who had money in the Bank irrespective of the amount he had in the Bank. The houses that were destroyed by the Nigerians were not re built. The Igbos in their individual efforts re built their houses.Today the Boko Haram killing people for no just cause and destroyed their houses ,schools ,and hospitals are now been rebuilt by the federal Government with little help from the west.Plains on ground to grant armnesty to a killer and destroyer who has killed millions of Nigerians. The Igbos can not be happy to all these injustices to them.Mr junaid Buharri and Nigerians owe a lot to the Igbos.
