The Era Of Buhari & Atiku Has Passed: Nigeria Needs A Younger President With New Ideas That Will Move Her Forward

By Bukola Jaiyesimi

Recently, Atiku evolved  winner of his party’s primaries to contest for the post of the president, Buhari Likewise for his party, and all we hear now is Buhari (APC) / Atiku (PDP);who will be the next president.

These are the same people that Nigerians have previously considered as incapable of ruling us.A walk down memory lane will see Atiku trying to become the President of Nigeria since 1992, infact this will be his 4th attempt. Please, what has changed? because I don’t understand anymore, Is it a different Atiku?

Same goes for Buhari, he contested severally before he finally won in the last election, people that have so bitterly grumbled about his administration are now the ones saying I will rather vote for Buhari than Atiku.

The last time I checked,Nigeria has over or about 91 political parties, 18 persons contesting for the post of the president,so does it mean that asides from Buhari (APC) and Atiku (PDP),there is no other person/party that is capable?

I am not here to campaign for any of the other contestants; I am just here to ask us to de-prison ourselves, we have been placed in an imaginary unlocked cage and are unwilling to set ourselves free. Initially,we said “aaah no other party can out sit the incumbent’s party”, until the last presidential election happened and the recent case in Ekiti. Now,our narrative is no person can win the sitof the president outside of the big  parties i.e PDP and APC, correct me if am wrong, these are the same people that have been ruling us since democracy.

By the same people I mean it literally, they jump from one party to the other, I mean this should even be the first evidence of incapability, if you cannot be loyal to a smaller group, do you propose to serve a larger group, just evidence that it is your personal interest you are after ( I win or I leave). In fact, the mental status of anyone that cross carpets should be checked, the reason for joining a political party is because you align with it’s principles, what then changed? The party’s principles or yours?

That being said, the decision really lies with the people, politics will not be played the way it is if the people don’t permit it. First,we talk of actually going out to vote, 50% of potential voters don’t actually vote, they are just social media voters. The majority of people that actually vote unfortunately are the uneducated who are unaware of the party’s policies and individual contestants’ manifestos, all they know is that I will vote for this person because he is from my constituency or because he has given me 2,000 and a cup of garri.

Agreed, every political clime has its own problem,it’s time Nigeria moved on to her next problem and stopped grappling with one for decades.

  1. First of all, votes do not count in Nigeria, secondly, most of the people you called social media warriors are not residing in Nigeria and the majority of people living here are kept in the darkness by the same British stooges, only listening to NTA and other government-controlled media.

Furthermore, those outside Nigeria in the name of involuntary exile has voted in the past without witnessing any positive change, the little left in good order is either no more or depleted…. the remedy? boycott all the election and the voices of the masses will be heard, Oduduwa and Arewa masses need to follow IPOB Biafra strategy, it will work, otherwise, these criminals will keep on being loyal to their slave masters.

  2. Great insight into our political dilemma! The people get the kind of leaders they deserve. In reference to the social media warriors, they clamour for emergence of youthful aspirants before now, and since the emergence of those youthful candidates(Sowore, Duke, Moghalu, Durotoye et al) their tunes have changed once again. This validates our thoughts that the problem of Nigeria is not so much of the leaders but the followers.

    • yes..But how can u rally around people to vote for such young men…when inec is corrupt and ruling govt will release money for bags of rice, wrapper and indomie..even our corpers are used to subvert the voting process.we need to stand with one voice.reject those evil gifts or even accept the gifts and vote our mind.if not,its still gonna be the same merry go round drama.

  3. Good Insights! Nigerians are tired of recycling these self-serving bigots.High time the Youth wake up & do the needful.

  4. The so called youths are no better, Saraki, Kwankwazo,Tambuwa and a host of others in the NASS, who cross carpet every election are youths they have no principles. They would mess up the place or allow known thieves to steal like Jonathan did. He was young and very educated yet he messed the place up before leaving. The real electrolate are so poor that $1000 bribe is enough to decide who to vote for. The real answer is restructuring.

  5. What a wonderful write-up, sincerely we need young people with brilliant and new ideas, as these old ones do not have anything to offer us.

  6. Lovely write up bukola, its a cry for fundamental change in our polity, a cry not to sell our tomorrow for the pleasures of the today. Its starts with restructuring of our hearts & minds. It starts with a change in thinking & mindset.

  7. Well written Bukola..
This is what i believe our polity as Nigerians should change to… Its not just only about having more young individuals in the polity but having individuals with reform ideologies & mindsets towards the deliberate making Nigeria great amongst the nation. So we as youths can collectively say # God bless Nigeria

  8. the problem we in Nigeria is that we vote political party not the person, if not i would have said let the younger person go and manage the affairs of this country. if we leave party and vote Donald Duke, i think he is a better option.
