Tragedy Strikes As Gunmen Attack Rochas Okorocha’s Convoy, Killing Police Officer

A police officer assigned to former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, was tragically killed during an attack on the ex-governor’s convoy. The incident took place in Ihube community along the Okigwe-Enugu Expressway. This particular stretch of the expressway has been plagued by the activities of terrorists who have been targeting and harming travelers, resorting to kidnapping for ransom.

The attack on Okorocha’s convoy occurred as he was making his way through Ihube. The former governor revealed the details of the incident during a gathering in Amaimo, located in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State. The event was the birthday celebration of Samuel Anyanwu, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Imo State, scheduled for November 11.

Expressing his deep sorrow and frustration, Okorocha described the killing of the police officer as “unfortunate.” The deceased officer was part of the security detail deployed from the state Government House to provide protection during the burial ceremony of the mother of Emeka Ihedioha, the immediate past governor of Imo State. Okorocha, visibly disturbed by the situation, shared his anger over the rising violence in the state, emphasizing that he had recently spent two days in Enugu without encountering any such incidents. However, it was upon returning to his own state that the convoy, which had been provided to him by the governor of Enugu State, came under attack, resulting in the loss of a valuable life.

“What is happening in Imo State makes me angry,” Okorocha expressed. “Many people who are running to govern Imo State are not capable, but I have seen one man who the cap fits. When it is time, I will speak.”

An aide of the ex-governor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the vehicles in the convoy, including a Sports Utility Vehicle, a bus, and a Hilux, were riddled with bullet holes, evidencing the intensity of the attack. Additionally, two other security agents were kidnapped by the assailants but thankfully released on the same day.

The incident has sparked outrage and deep concern among residents of Imo State, as the rise in violence and insecurity continues to grip the region. It serves as a grim reminder of the challenges faced by both the government and the people in their quest for peace and stability.
