The Holy Bible And The Quran: A Personal Opinion Part 1

October 29, 2017 – The Holy Bible And The Koran: A Personal Opinion Part 1

By Afeso Albert Akanbi

I am a Christian, yes. However, even though it should, this fact has no bearing whatsoever on the writing of this four part article you are about to read. The points I raised here are purely mine, gathered over time from my interaction with adherents of the Christian and Islamic faiths, my understanding of, and exposure to the debate on the Divine Authorship claims of both religion’s holy books.

A point to quickly note here is that by ‘Holy Bible’, I am referring to the Old and New Testaments of the Christians scriptures.

That said, please permit me to present my contribution to the debate on whether the Bible has been corrupted and that the Koran is its replacement. Even though this claim has no basis in the Koran, even though the strongest available evidence today runs contrary to this argument, most Muslims still hold on to this view.

We are told that the Koran as revealed by the angel Gabriel to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) beginning in 610 A.D. is the inspired word of God sent down verbatim from a mother book in heaven, and that the Holy Bible as we know it today is a corrupt version of a more authentic book that has been lost to time.

Granted that there may be some variant in the New Testament Christian scriptures, available evidence proves that the core message of the Bible, from before the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) till today has not changed. As a matter of fact, the evidence proves that the Islamic prophet trusted the verity of the Holy Bible that was available in his day, the same copy that is in circulation today according to records.

Despite this apparent fact, it appears some die hard Muslim Apologists have made it a point of note to rebrand their attempt at getting the western world to accept Islam by trying to discredit the Bible. For instance, we often hear some of them making statements likes; “The bible has been corrupted”, “the original bible has been lost”, “there are different types of bibles in circulation today” and so on these days. From where I am standing, I believe these claims are spurious at best and nothing could be further from the truth regarding the Holy Bible.

This is because if one takes a critical look at the Koran, one would find countless evidences that disprove these claims. First, the Koran itself affirms the Divine Authorship of the Bible so much that in its affirmation, it goes as far as telling us in Surah 157 and Surah 6 that it even foretold Prophet Mohammad’s coming!

Muslim apologists today conveniently choose to ignore this fact, while many are ignorant of it and even more are just plain mischievous about it. The Koran clearly stated that the books written by Moses, the Psalms of David and the Gospels written about Jesus Christ were all given by the inspiration of God.

For example, Surah 2:87 tells us that “…we gave Moses the books…”, Surah 4:163 says “…to David we gave the Psalms…” and Surah 3:3 says “…to Jesus we sent the gospels…”, referring to God’s confirmation of some of the books in the Christian and the Jewish scriptures, which were around before, during and after the founding of Islam.

While there are Christians who agree with this particular testimony, there are others who believe these statements were just accidental appearances in the Koran. They ask how the Muslims can continue to claim that the Bible has been corrupted when the Koran speaks otherwise, that does it mean that they do not believe in their own holy book?

The Koran asserts that the books of the Bible and the Jewish scriptures are God’s words and cannot be changed, and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) often referred to these books during his lifetime. Surah 6:34, 6:115 and 10:64 makes this fact clear when they say, “…no change can there be in the words of Allah…” i.e including the books of Moses, the Psalms of David and the Gospels about Jesus.

If Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) received the Koran from God, and at the same time in which he did, God told him as we have seen, that the Holy Bible and Torah came from Him, and that His words in those books could not be changed, at what point then was the Bible corrupted? Was it before, during or after the prophet? If it was before as some say, why then did God not inform Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) of this? If it was during his lifetime, why did God reveal to him that the words in those books were His and could not be changed? If it was after, does it mean God cannot protect His own words ‘which cannot be changed’ from being corrupted and changed? I will return to this point in details in part two of this article.

Some experts believe we are witnessing a deliberate attempt to distort the facts because current revelation coming to light from the Codex Vaticanus, Codex Sinaiticus and the Dead Sea Scrolls and in fact all the scrolls being discovered in the Middle East today especially in Israel, shows that the Holy Bible has not changed one bit.

Yet we continue to hear die hard Muslim apologists these days quoting from and ‘analyzing’ the Bible, most of the time out of context some would say and other times displaying apparent misunderstanding of what they are quoting others would say. Also, some Christians say the Muslims are morbidly afraid of Christians doing the same to the Koran as they are of atheists and free thinkers too. They say the Muslims insist that non-Muslims cannot explain the Koran yet they themselves always ‘explain’ the Holy Bible. And when you provide them with cogent reasons to show why their book appear faulty, they would dismiss such as the works of haters of Islam, or claim that because you do not speak Arabic, you cannot understand the Koran or the teachings of Islam; and so conveniently forget that more than half of the worldwide followers of Islam today are non-native speakers of the Arabic language who must cram the entire Koran in Arabic.

Some ask why it appears that Muslims do not have a problem with people who seem to see things from their own prism. Why do they tell us to go and learn Islam from Islamic Imams, apologists and or clerics, a thing which they say is akin to asking a thief to be a judge in his own case?

Is this where Christianity and Islam form two very long parallel lines; because it appears Christians understand that a body of knowledge, i.e religion, cannot claim truth unless it can withstand all manner of criticism and tests, no matter how harsh and vile they are, that can be mustered against it. Does this sit at the core of why, even in the Holy Bible, Apostle Paul admonished believers to “…prove all things and hold fast to that which is the truth…” (1 Thessalonians 5: 21).

Conversely some argue, in Islamic societies, questions are discouraged, free minded inquiry is prohibited and dissenters are often executed.

Should this prevent me, in this article, from doing an honest appraisal of both books, within my capacity to do so as a writer, researcher and humanitarian? No, because I see this as a humanitarian endeavour to inform my readers of what I feel about the subject, thus producing a recital of one of many perspectives where it concerns the examination of common knowledge in this aspect of life – faith and religion.

In part two, we shall be apprising the subject of Divine Authorship in light of available evidence, while juxtaposing the assertions of both books in great details.

Afeso I like this contribution a lot. I think many people are shying away from the truth.
To compare the bible with the Quran is like pooring blood on a pure white robe. The two can never be compared. One is more inclined to evil while the other supports good deeds. Please let’s stop insulting nature. By what we are seeing in the world so far, Koran is promoting blood shed yet those Muslim apologetics are not addressing it. I will stop here for now.

It is obvious you and the poster of this article have no knowledge on what you are saying. I’ll advise you take off your prejudice glasses from your eyes and study both books with all honesty and analyze which one is the truth. Peace be unto you.

Thank you Alfeso Albert Akanbi for a clear and logical presentation.
You are right to say that the Quran affirms the truth of the Bible. At the time of writing it confirmed the Bible and the evidence shows us Bible has not been changed since then! At what stage do Muslims believe the Bible was corrupted and how?
If the Quran confirms the Bible then Islam has a dilemma….for the Bible and the Quran don’t match up. If the Quran is true then it says the Bible is true and they disagree.
Thank you once again for hopefully making people think …..

Hopefully, you read this at your own covenient time. Make sure you read all the reference chapters you’ll get some things.
“Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (scriptures) in the law and the Gospel”.

      1.
MUHAMMAD (PBUH) PROPHESISED IN THE BOOK OF DEUTERONOMY:

Almighty God speaks to Moses in Book of Deuteronomy chapter 18 verse 18:

“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and I will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.”

The Christians say that this prophecy refers to Jesus (pbuh) because Jesus (pbuh) was like Moses (pbuh). Moses (pbuh) was a Jew, as well as Jesus (pbuh) was a Jew. Moses (pbuh) was a Prophet and Jesus (pbuh) was also a Prophet.

If these two are the only criteria for this prophecy to be fulfilled, then all the Prophets of the Bible who came after
Moses (pbuh) such as Solomon, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Malachi, John the Baptist, etc. (pbut) will
fulfill this prophecy since all were Jews as well as prophets.

However, it is Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who is like Moses (pbuh):

      i)

Both had a father and a mother, while Jesus (pbuh) was born miraculously without any male intervention.

      [Mathew 1:18 and Luke 1:35 and also Al-Qur’an 3:42-47]

      ii)
Both were married and had children. Jesus (pbuh) according to the Bible did not marry nor had children.

      iii)
Both died natural deaths. Jesus (pbuh) has been raised up alive. (4:157-158)

Muhammad (pbuh) is from among the brethren of Moses (pbuh). Arabs are brethren of Jews. Abraham (pbuh) had two sons: Ishmail and Isaac (pbut). The Arabs are the descendants of Ishmail (pbuh) and the Jews are the descendants of Isaac (pbuh).

      Words in the mouth:

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was unlettered and whatever revelations he received from Almighty God he repeated them verbatim.

“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.”

      [Deuteronomy 18:18]

      iv)
Both besides being Prophets were also kings i.e. they could inflict capital punishment. Jesus (pbuh) said, “My kingdom is not of this world.” (John 18:36).

      v)
Both were accepted as Prophets by their people in their lifetime but Jesus (pbuh) was rejected by his
people. John chapter 1 verse 11 states, “He came unto his own, but his own received him not.”

      iv)
Both brought new laws and new regulations for their people. Jesus (pbuh) according to the Bible did not bring any new laws. (Mathew 5:17-18).

      2.
It is Mentioned in the book of Deuteronomy chapter 18:19

“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not harken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.”

      3.
Muhammad (pbuh) is prophesised in the book of Isaiah:

It is mentioned in the book of Isaiah chapter 29 verse 12:

“And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.”

When Archangel Gabrail commanded Muhammad (pbuh) by saying Iqra – “Read”, he replied, “I am not learned”.

      4.
prophet Muhammad (pbuh) mentioned by name in the old testament:

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is mentioned by name in the Song of Solomon chapter 5 verse 16:

“Hikko Mamittakim we kullo Muhammadim Zehdoodeh wa Zehraee Bayna Jerusalem.”

“His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters
      of Jerusalem.”

In the Hebrew language im is added for respect. Similarely im is added after the name of Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh) to make it Muhammadim. In English translation they have even translated the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as “altogether lovely”, but in the Old Testament in Hebrew, the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is yet present.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in the New Testament:

      Al-Qur’an Chapter 61 Verse 6:

“And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said, ‘O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me and giving glad tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed.’ But when he came to them with clear signs, they said, ‘This is evident sorcery!’ ”

All the prophecies mentioned in the Old Testament regarding Muhammad (pbuh) besides applying to the Jews also hold good for the Christians.

      1.
      John chapter 14 verse 16:
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.”

      2.
Gospel of John chapter 15 verse 26:

“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which
proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.”

      3.
Gospel of John chapter 16 verse 7:

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not
come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you”.

“Ahmed” or “Muhammad” meaning “the one who praises” or “the praised one” is almost the translation of the
Greek word Periclytos. In the Gospel of John 14:16, 15:26, and 16:7. The word ‘Comforter’ is used in the English translation for the Greek word Paracletos which means advocate or a kind friend rather than a comforter.
Paracletos is the warped reading for Periclytos. Jesus (pbuh) actually prophesised Ahmed by name. Even the
Greek word Paraclete refers to the Prophet (pbuh) who is a mercy for all creatures.

Some Christians say that the Comforter mentioned in these prophecies refers to the Holy Sprit. They fail to realise
that the prophecy clearly says that only if Jesus (pbuh) departs will the Comforter come. The Bible states that the
Holy Spirit was already present on earth before and during the time of Jesus (pbuh), in the womb of Elizabeth, and again when Jesus (pbuh) was being baptised, etc. Hence this prophecy refers to none other than Prophet
      Muhammad (pbuh).

      4.
Gospel of John chapter 16 verse 12-14:

“I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is
come, he will guide you unto all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me”.

The Sprit of Truth, spoken about in this prophecy referes to none other than Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)

It is a waste of time trying to explain and convince author for each point he raised. No offence intended…author of this article has no idea what he is saying obviously.

Let me just drop one ***** on his****for a minute. In other to affirm authenticity of Bible, he said he referenced prophecy of the advent of prophet Muhammad(saw). The question is, does the author believe this biblical prophecy of the advent of Muhammad in his Bible?

Even in waec scores 3A‘s is 3 Distinctions. I personally like, sorry, loves all your write ups and most especially, the way and manner you referes to these two Books of these two religion. Though, I want to say, one is a just a Way Of Life while the other is more or less a Cult.
The Holy Bible and the koran. I totally agree with this fact because, the Bible is indeed Holy and should be addressed as such while there‘s nothing holy about the koran other than being a mere book that promotes violence, hatred, bloodshed, falsehood, blasphemy etc…

Again, Alphabetically, everything about the Christian comes before that of islams. Check this out:-
    *Christian -C- islam-i
    *Bible -B- koran- k
    *Jerusalem -J- mecca-m
    *Jesus Christ -J- mohammed-m
    *Christmas -C- sallah-s
Even when it comes to supporting a Club side. We have

That abbreviation, (PBUH) they ignorantly attatch to the name of that their mohammed each time he‘s mentioned does not mean PEACE but Punish Be Upon Him for confusing so many guillible people from the Truth.

Hmmm, truly a personal opinion devoid of critical research and free from bias. If Quran confirms what the bible said, it was definitely not this current bible. Quran was referring to Torah not Bible. The Original scripture was not left alone for any four canonical bible writers. Only two of them were Jesus Disciples while Mark and Luke recorded from hearsay. Check Luke 1 vs 1 to 4. Even, evidence showed that there were third party bible thumpers who wrote bible and the name of Mathew and John was imprinted to authenticate those write ups. in truth, those guys knew nothing about bible. Again, that sums it up why Israelites up till this moment did not practice Christianity but Judaism. Moreover, could anyone on this issue relay to me the original name of Jesus while alive. I have every evidence and real name of Jesus he was addressed while on earth. Definitely, his name then was not Jesus.

I’m not surprised.. Since this is the work of a Christian who knows little or nothing about Islam and hates it. Backs up the little he knows with his scandalous and blasphemous personal opinions. May the Lord forgive you, cos u don’t know what u are doing.
U ppl don’t know anything about Islam as u think. Truly what was revealed to Moses and Dawud(David) is authentic, but the current day Bible has been corrupted. The Holy Quran is the last and all encompassing of all previous books revealed to other prophets. Allah clearly refuted having a son as u people believe, in the Quran. It’s a good thing u mentioned that the Bible confirmed the coming of phophet Muhammad ( Peace be upon him). But do u Christians actually believe in him? The Quran displays a high level of reverence to Prophet Eesa(Jesus) and his mother Maryam. Though there’s some little truth in this post, it is almost full of lies. The writer of this post clearly wants to deface and ridicule Islam, but that can’t happen. Quran chapter 109 clearly states: O you disbelievers in Islamic monotheism! To you be your religion, and to me be my religion.
You have no right to try to deface another religion. You have no business with Islam, so just face your own religion.
Islam is the truth, and shall remain forever. I thank God for being guided on the right path, and being a Muslim.

You can boldly tell another person you have no right to deface my religion do you imply Moslems have the exclusive right to deface Christianity? Have you ever counseled a Moslem scholar who aired his opinions about Christianity or the Bible even when such a writer speaks I’ll of it you feel good. Here to me is s scholarly paper so why the fuss? Have you ever condemned the lies and rubbish Moslem scholars write about Christianity and Bible? If you never did don’t start now. I’m a Christian but I don’t force others to take my opinion or impose my faith on others violently or otherwise. You opened with a quote suggesting everyone should mind his religion who should heed that advice when it is Moslems who are perpetually compelling ,killing and won’t let others mind their religion? It also Moslems who are quick to speak or write evil about the Bible and Christianity.Don’t deceive yourself be honest for once.
Is U.S a Christian organization or Christian state? Check your facts to confirm U.S is a secular state everyone is free to follow his faith and no one is killed for not belonging or belonging to another faith. Be reminded also that severally Islam and Moslems have denounced book haram,Isis and other Islamic groups wrecking havoc as not being truly Moslem. You only know how to criticise the Bible why is Islam over protective of the Koran? They know if subjected to the criticism the Bible had been through it can stand the test hence the claim that others won’t understand the Koran and making itnot accessible to the public as it should be. I understand many Christians hold KJV esteem. But king james is faulted. If you read preface of RSV, it criticizes KJV for inconsistencies. I have read KJV. It’s getting worse everyday. Do you even realize that there are new king james, too? They are called New king james version(NKJV), Authorized (king james) version and king james Bible. The names are just confusing. This is Revised Standard version(RSV) preface: Visit p.9

On the preface of RSV criticizes KJV if the Bible. It reads,

Yet the king james version has GRAVE defects. By the middle of the nine-teenth century, the development of Biblical studies and the discovery of many manuscripts more ancient than those upon which the king james version was based, made it manifest that these defects are so many and so serious as to call for revision of the English translation. The task was undertaken, by authority of the Church of England, in 1870. The English Revised version of the Bible was published in 1881-1885; and the American Standard version, its variant embodying the preferences of the American scholars associated in the work, was published in 1901. This is the version of the Bible ifeann credited and recommended so much.

    Hahaha

RSV itself has many verses been expunged and other versions too. Don’t get me started bcus i debate religions. You better leave islam out of this bcus i am not easy to deal with when it comes to christian/muslim debate. Yet, you have many uncorrelated versions. Another one called Gay Bible, Women Bible where they removed any masculine references to Jesus like he, him and replaced with she/her.

Thats just one the many corruptions Quran talks about. Gay Bible portrays Jesus as gay. Another called Kiddie Bible and the list goes on. Currently there are more than 50 versions of the bible with variances. But Quran is one in Arabic.

Abeg, come up with you part 2.

People here commenting, most of you lack knowledge about Quran. Sammy, Omo Jesu and Ola Amoo, all of you shouldn’t have portray Islam a violent religion of you read and understand your bible Christians forgot that ***** happened to be the most violent book on the surface of the earth. Western countries are not supposed to be regarded as Christians. There seemed to be a mixed up between western culture and Christian ones. In real truth, history has proven since world inception that the alleged christian nations committed genocides. Example are Hiroshima bombing by Americans. Was Adolph Hitler was a Muslim when 6 million Jews was massacred in 1945 that led to establishment of the current Israel on stolen land. American genocide of native red Indians alongside the recent genocide of native Mexican in mexico to annex the current new Mexico city or town. Just to mention very few of killings in human history of the so called Christians. This sums it up now that they followed the teaching of Jesus in Luke 19 vs 27. Now back to the real topic of discussion. we have numerous versions of bible. King James version was regarded by revised standard version to contain 50,000 errors to call for new revision. Readers should read the preface printed at the beginning of the new revised standard version of bible for confirmation. Besides new international version wrote in a footnote at Mark 16 vs 9 that the original scripture had no Mark 16 up to 20 .So those verses were expunged away from the revised standard version of the bible. We need not fool ourselves, bible was truly corrupted by bible thumpers. ALL THESE BOOKS ARE NO MORE A YARDSTICK,

WHAT IS IMPORTANT NOW IN TWENTY FIRST CENTURY IS TO JUST LOVE YOURSELF AND YOUR CREATOR AND ASSIST YOUR CREATOR TO MAKE THIS EARTH A BETTER PLACE.

BECAUSE THOSE WHO WE THINK KNOWS THE NAME OF THE CREATOR, ARE EVIL LIARS SUPERDUPERYAHOOFRAUDSTERS.

THEY WROTE DOWN WHAT THEY LIKE AND SAY IT WAS GOD WHO WROTE THEM ,
IF SO , WHO IS SPYING ON WHO? .A LOT OF VERSE ARE NOT GOOD AT ALL.

THERE ARE A LOT OF VERSES THAT ARE NOT OF GOD, IN WHICH THEY SHOULD REMOVE THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY DANGEROUS TO THE SOCIETY.

BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FOR PEACE BUT THEY ARE FOR WAR, THEY ARE CREATING RACIST AND SEGREGATION.

WHEN YOU READ MATHEW 10 VS 30 TO 36 , THIS VERSE NEED TO BE REMOVE AND WHEN YOU READ THE OTHER BOOK 33 VS 60 T0 61, IT IS ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD DO TO UNBELIEVERS

RELIGION SHOULD BE A CHOICE, IT SHOULD NOT BE WITH FORCE, IN WHICH THEY SAY , YOU SHOULD BE KILLED BECAUSE YOU ARE UNBELIEVER.

I DO NOT THINK , GOD WANT YOU TO BE KILLED IF YOU DO NOT CHOOSE TO BELONG TO ANY OF THESE MAN MADE IDEA.

BECAUSE WE ARE A CO -CREATOR, WE CAME TO THIS EARTH IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE CREATOR TO MAKE THIS EARTH A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE .

Unfortunately, the saying is true about religion being the opium of the masses. This is as I expected-ARGUEMENTS! We seem to forget the fact that we are first of all humans before any religion. Other than loving your God with all your might and all your strength and Loving your neighbour as yourself, there is no law, be ause every law is summed up in these. Stop playing religion or following arguements because you dont need it as it doesnt add value but creates more and more arguements but remember that no culture or religion is older than being human!
    I rest my case.
