How Brave Man Who Crashed Car Into Fleeing Kidnappers Vehicle Helped Rescue Victim

Desperate attempt by a three-man kidnap gang to abduct a school proprietress in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, was Wednesday night, botched, with two suspects arrested.

Meanwhile, their target, Mrs Mildred Mbajiorgu, the proprietress of a nursery school in the area was, at press time, still being treated at an undisclosed private hospital, owing to the injury she sustained during the incident.

Vanguard gathered that she left her school in the company of her 15-year-old daughter and a female teacher at about 7p.m., heading for her house in the Government Reserved Area, GRA, Abijo. However, on reaching Peaceland Estate, a red-coloured Gulf GTI car with the three armed men intercepted her car.

Two of the strangers reportedly jumped out of their operational vehicle and abducted the woman. An eyewitnesses said they also attempted to kidnap her daughter and the teacher, but that they fled in different directions. Thereafter, the kidnappers whisked the proprietress away in their car.

The victim, as gathered, managed to untie the ropes binding her wrists and attempted to jump out of the car at a traffic jam in Awoyaya. However, her captors reportedly hit her with some iron rods and pushed her back into the car. Explaining how the victim was rescued, her husband, Chief Edward Mbajiorgu, said:

“Immediately they pushed her back inside their car, my wife started yelling for help. A motorist, who was close to the vehicle, sensed she could be in danger and drove after the Golf GTI car.

“In the process, he hit the kidnappers’ car from behind. The kidnappers increased their pace but one of their tyres burst and they hit two cars in front of them.

“They turned to the other lane where an oncoming vehicle hit them, causing their vehicle to stop abruptly at Oribanwa.”
