“The life of inner peace, being harmonious and without stress, is the  easiest type of existence” ~Norman Vincent Peale

Peace Of Mind

To have peace is to be free from violence. A person is said to have peace of mind when there is an absent of violence in his mind. In this state, the mind is totally free from worries, anxiety and stress and there is an experience of all round tranquility, quietness and calmness.

With peace, success is more achievable. This is because a calm mind can easily focus on whatever its target may be. A person with a calm mind can also learn diligently from his past mistakes and failure to create a better future. Have you attained the place of enjoying all round peace and tranquility?

Many people have peace but the question is, for how long? Does their peace fade away when the troubles of life arise? Can you still be calm even when it feels like the whole world is crumbling down on you? Having peace in the midst of troubles is one of the best things a person can ever experience. It is possible to enjoy this perfect peace in the world today.

There are so many reasons people lose their inner peace; these reasons are mostly attitudinal. These attitudes drain people of their peace and energy leaving them broken and miserable. Some of these wrong attitudes may be the reasons you have lost your peace:

  • Comparing yourself with others
  • Pleasing others at the expense of your happiness
  • Doubting your abilities
  • Living a fake life to please people
  • Holding onto past hurts
  • Isolating yourself
  • Overthinking
  • Overdependence on others

Gaining happiness

True happiness comes as a result of having inner peace. Happiness is a state of delightfulness, bliss and feeling blessed. It does not come from the outside, it comes from your ability to look over things that weigh you down and drain your energy. It comes from doing the things you love. It is a reward of fulfillment and accomplishment.

Most people think happiness comes from wealth and luxury but this is not always so; we have so many rich yet unhappy people in the world today, how can we explain this? With inner peace, you can find happiness at any level of your life.

Tips to finding inner peace and happiness

It is possible to find peace in the midst of the storm. When you find it, you can easily walk out of any challenge of life without being afraid of what the turn out may be. Things must not always be good for you to be happy but you have to be happy if you want things to turn out well. With these steps, attaining inner peace and happiness is closer than you can ever imagine.

  1. Avoid negative people

To have that peace you so desire, you must first kick out everything and everyone that only remind you of how bad things can be. Try out new friends, friends with a positive mindset, friends that believe that tables can always turn for good. Friends who understand that worrying does not make life better, it only makes it worse.

Conversations stick to the subconscious mind and carefully develop into thoughts. Be mindful of who and what you listen to.

  1. Be more grateful

Being thankful for life especially in the midst of challenges may sometimes be difficult but research has found that grateful people know that they have challenges but they consciously decide to take their minds off them. The more you complain about life, the more the entropy in your mind and with all these going on, inner peace may not be achievable, and you have to make a U-turn. Try to see well out of everything and every situation, wake up with a determination to be thankful and you will gain satisfaction and contentment while looking for a way to move forward.

“You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.” —Eckhart Tolle

The next time your troubles are overwhelming your mind, try to consciously recall to your mind all the wonderful things that has happened to you in life. It is called counting your blessings.

  1. Forgive

Holding a grudge they say is like taking the punishment for your offender. They really hurt you, I know but it is time to let them out of your precious heart so you can find calm.  Peace and grudge cannot stay in the same room, one has to go. It is left for you to decide; choose the one you will let go and the one you will keep.

  1. Let go of the past

Could it have been a divorce, abuse, wrong decision or failure of any kind? It’s okay. It has stayed for too long and you have paid more than you should for it, you have to kick it out. Let that anger out, dump the guilt and break up with the self-pity; they have taken too much from you. Set yourself free and leave for the things that matter the most (which is you).

  1. Stop the chatter in your mind

Take a break; take a rest, your mind also needs to rest too. Stop trying to overanalyze everything; you will realize you where overworking yourself over something that wasn’t really worth it. Take out a few minutes, shut your eyes and try to blank your mind. This will make you more relaxed and feel more peaceful.

  1. Be a little carefree

Learn to have a little ‘I don’t care’ attitude over some things. You don’t always have to take everything personally; there are things you should allow pass. When you let people know all they say or do always gets to you, you give them the key to your peace because they will stop at nothing to make you miserable. Take that power back by letting the unwanted and unpleasant things pass.

“Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.” —Dalai Lama

  1. Be patient with people

Exercise some level of patience with people. Everybody cannot be like you and everyone cannot do the things you do the way you do them. Give them some space and accept their differences, and learn to see things form their point of view too.

  1. Focus

To have the peace you desire, it is important for you to take your mind off anything that will not take you to your desired destination. You can do this by choosing the things you allow into your mind. Sieve out the negative thought and cultivate a habit of letting your heart stay on positive things alone.

  1. Enjoy nature

Spending time with nature is helpful in achieving inner peace; you get to enjoy the beauty and serenity of life. You can enjoy this by taking shorts walks everyday around parks and places where you can have a great view of nature.

“Peace is always beautiful.”  —Walt Whitman

Taking nature retreats has been found to provide long term relieve for psychological stress because in retreats, you get to laugh out loud and have some really interesting adventure.

  1. Let go of the worry

Worrying like I said earlier cannot change the future; it only makes you nervous and takes away the joy of today. Things may not always turn out the way we thought they would; some become either better or worse and the rest unchanged.

Instead of worry, plan and take deliberate actions to change the things you would not love to see in future.

  1. Limit the mental attachment

The more attached you are to something or someone, the more power they have to hurt you. It is okay to give yourself to something or someone but always have a reserve you can hold onto. You don’t have to be completely lost in something especially something that is uncertain.

  1. Meditate

Meditation is very helpful in the decrement of anxiety. It is also helpful in the enhancement of all round well-being (i.e of physical and mental well-being). It helps people regulate their attention and emotions which can help them change the way they see and feel about themselves.

There are different types of meditation practices, they are:

  • Sitting meditation
  • Walking meditation and
  • Mindful movements

Having some mindful meditation is a sure way of having inner peace and serenity.

In conclusion, to have true peace, you have to create your own life. Do not look up to others to affirm and make your life better. Be comfortable in your own skin, feel good doing the things you do. People’s opinion does not really matter; the life is yours, not theirs.

No matter what you are going through right now, I want you to know that you are not alone. People have faced that same issue or worse and they came out strong. It may be hopeless, I know, but it only truly becomes hopeless when you stop giving yourself hope. You will pull through so relax, and stop making yourself miserable.
