Nigerian Army & Navy Recruitment Requirements, Website & How to Apply

The Nigerian Army is the biggest of the three arms of the Nigerian Armed Forces. It was established mainly to secure the borders of Nigeria and engage in land combat operations when there is need. The Nigerian Navy on the other hand is the arm responsible for securing the marine borders of Nigeria and engaging in combat operations by sea. Both arms of the armed forces recruit personnel in both commissioned and non-commissioned cadres every year to ensure they are never short of personnel.

Officers are commissioned from two sources, either regular course from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) or through Direct Short Service Commission through which graduates of conventional Nigerian universities get recruited into the officer cadre of the armed forces. In this article, we will discuss how graduates of conventional Nigerian universities gain employment into the Nigerian Army and Navy.

How to join Nigerian Army as a graduate

Graduates of conventional universities in Nigeria join the Army through the Direct Short Service. This is done through purchase of forms online and registration after which exams are administered in form of aptitude test. After that, shortlisted candidates are invited for screening which involves test of physical fitness, mental and other forms of health to make sure the prospective officers are completely sound. Serving military personnel can also apply for this form of recruitment provided they were sponsored by the Nigerian Army to a conventional University.
