What Nigerians Can Learn from Indians in Canada

Once upon a time, for the obodo oyibo land of Canada, dey one city wey dem dey call Brampton. If you waka for the streets of Brampton, you go see say almost everybody for there be Indian. Dem don turn the place to their own small India. You go dey wonder, how dem take do am? The answer dey simple – dem dey support each other like family.

E get one Indian man wey dem dey call Raj. Raj na businessman wey get big supermarket for Brampton. When Raj start him business, the first thing wey him do na to employ him fellow Indians. All the people wey dey work for the supermarket be Indians. No be say him no fit employ other people, but him believe say to help him own people na the best way to lift them up.

Raj no stop for there. Anytime him hear say one Indian family dey look for house, him go help them find one close to him own house. Him believe say if dem live close to each other, dem go fit support each other better. Before you know, the whole street don turn to Indian community. Dem go celebrate together, dem go help each other with money, advice, and any kind support wey dem fit give.

This kind support no stop for just Raj. E spread across all the Indians wey dey Canada. If an Indian person become HR for one company, you fit be sure say him go employ more Indians. If dem hear say one Indian student dey find school to attend, dem go help am get admission and even find place to stay. This kind love and support make dem plenty for Canada, especially for places like Brampton.

Now, make we look the other side. Nigerians dey complain say Indians go soon take over Canada, but wetin we dey do to help our own people? Many Nigerians dey face wahala alone because nobody dey to support them. Instead make we lift each other up, we dey drag each other down. If one Nigerian get better job, him no go want make another Nigerian join am for the same company. If one Nigerian buy house, him no go tell another Nigerian how him take do am.

The lesson we fit learn from this story be say, unity and support dey important. For Bible, Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 talk say, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.” This verse dey remind us say we need each other to succeed.

Make I give you another example. Chinedu na Nigerian wey dey live for Toronto. Chinedu na very hardworking man, but e dey struggle to settle down because no help. One day, him meet one Indian man, Patel, wey dey live for the same neighborhood. Patel see say Chinedu dey struggle, him decide to help am. He introduce Chinedu to other Indians, dem begin support am with advice and small small help. Before you know, Chinedu business don grow because of the support wey him get.

Chinedu begin think, “Why my own people no fit do this kind thing?” Him decide say he go start to dey help other Nigerians. Anytime him see Nigerian wey need help, him go do him best to support. Slowly, the Nigerians for that area begin unite, dem begin help each other, and things start to change for better.

My people, this story na to encourage us. Make we learn from the Indians and start to dey support each other. If we help our people, we go grow together. Proverbs 27:17 talk say, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” This na true talk. If we dey support each other, we go all shine together.

No be to dey complain say Indians go take over Canada. Make we look within ourselves and see how we fit take change our own situation. If you get better job, help your fellow Nigerian find job too. If you buy house, share the information with others. If you know something wey fit help person, no keep am to yourself.

Remember say, Galatians 6:2 talk say, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Make we carry each other burden, make we support each other with love and care. If we do this, we go see say Nigerians go begin flourish for Canada and anywhere wey we dey.
