In Loving Memory Of John Olubunmi Agbaje – August 29, 1982 – May 27, 2024
John Olubunmi Agbaje, known to many as “Funtime,” was born on August 29, 1982, in Lagos, Nigeria. He was the first child of Olujimi and Abiola Agbaje. He had two younger siblings, Omolola and Olurotimi. John attended Corona School in Ikoyi for his elementary education and Atlantic Hall in Lagos for high school.
For his A-levels, John went to Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire, England. He began his university studies at the University of Plymouth but soon realized he wanted to be closer to the love of his life, Abioye. So, he transferred to the University of West of England in Bristol, where he completed his undergraduate studies. Later, he pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Birmingham.
He worked as a marketing manager for several consumer packaged goods companies in Nigeria and Canada. His career was marked by dedication and success. He also found joy in being a godfather to two godchildren, whom he adored.
John was a man who loved life. His nickname, “Funtime,” was well-earned. He enjoyed discussing politics, going to concerts, listening to music, watching TV, and spending time with friends. He was a staunch Catholic and an active member of the Catholic Friendly Society (CFS). Additionally, he was a passionate supporter of Arsenal Football Club.
He had a unique way of connecting with people. He could build strong bonds with few words, leaving a lasting impression on those he met. His presence was felt deeply by those who knew him, and his absence is profoundly mourned.
He was a devoted husband to Abioye and a loving father to their son, Oreoluwa, who fondly called him “Poppy.” John’s parents, Olujimi and Abiola, his siblings, in-laws, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends are left with a void in their hearts since his passing on May 27, 2024.
His life was filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections. He will always be remembered for his vibrant spirit and the joy he brought to others. His legacy lives on in the memories shared by those who loved him and in the lasting impact he made on their lives.
