Missing Abobaku Returns To Ooni Of Ife Palace, Man To Be Buried Alive With The King Today

abobaku returns

August 14, 2015 – Missing Abobaku Found At Ooni Of Ife Palace, Man To Be Buried Alive With The King Today

An elderly man scheduled to be buried alive with the king of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade has returned.

According to palace sources, the runaway chief was found late last night inside one of the sacred houses in the palace.

He however refused to perform his duty, insisting that the late monarch being a born again Christian had warned traditional chiefs to stop using human being for sacrifices.

A guard at the palace said the Abobaku will still be buried alive with the king today in accordance to Ife tradition.

Ooni of Ife’s burial program is currently ongoing in Ile Ife.

Will bring you photos from the event shortly.

    • my thought Nigerian are so civilized since 18 century, and the bad norms and taboos were cancelled after being independence.
The author Mr Chinua Achebe writes many books to educate and insisted to stop killing albinos and chief killing their people, but now shows still existing even after more than 50 yrs of the the independence people are not free to their government.
This is not acceptable at all in the world, to short down the life of human being, everybody is happy to stay and enjoy the life until the god decide to shut down.
i would like to condemn the government of Nigeria for not stopping this behavior from the local culture, who have the power in the country? what is the Nigerian constitution say?
one of the mistake from the ruling state.

    • Even if they had used some supernatural means of calling him back, why cannot all our spiritual leaders(Imams and Pastors) kick against this barbaric act and petition Ife kingmakers at least to bring it to the knowledge of government. There would not be a stop to this act if this is allowed to go without being challenged
I still believe it didnt happen otherwise the Ifes should produce the Abobaku alive to convince us he was not used for rituals
      Subhanalilahi

  1. Security outfits should be on alert to arrest anybody caught in the illegal deity practices of burying a human being alive. Its very primitive to subscribe to an illegality of deliberate murder of an individual in the 21st century. Whoever encourages the act or participate in the perpetrations of the killing should be arrested and prosecuted according to the laws of Nigeria. Ooni of Ife and for that matter Ile Ife as a cradle of Yoruba tradition and cultures are both subjects of the constitution of the nation Nigeria and therefore, should exist and operate strictly under the laws of Nigeria.

  2. Buried alive?????????????????????????? Yeeeeeeeeeeeeepa! Iku oooooooooooooooooo. Dis is inhumanity to God and man

  3. I hope what I am reading is not correct. How can you bury someone alive with the Oba? The Oba did became a born again Christian and some people still want to bury someone alive with him? God have mercy.

  4. It’s all in the name of culture. That is why jesus came to this world put an end to all this inhuman altitude but some people are still putting their self into this bondage. My bible says” my people perished for lack of knowledge” we all know that the act is not good but, that is what he have chosen for himself. I think the children should learn a lesson from this and give their life to christ. You are a slave to whatever you chooses to serve. The only way that this can be stop is through jesus Christ. Accept him into your life and be free from an inherited covenat with satan. He is the way, No other way. Stay blessed.

  5. A man should be buried alive with oba ? what a nonesense culture ? the man has no family ? why can they not use one of the oba,s children ? if its so compulsory, this is 2015 not 1815

  6. I had thought the Yoruba people are more civilized than this. How can they just pudsh a wailing olkd man into an empty grave and cover with mass of sand while the man struggles? This calls for soul searching among those whose culture still admits this philistinism.

  7. We all agree the act appears barbaric..but has anyone ever stopped to think of why the said man agreed to accept such a title in the first place? The literal translation of the name ‘abobaku’ means a person who dies with the king..how could he have ‘enjoyed’all the privileges attached to this title..and wen the day of reckoning arrives..everyone starts shouting ‘foul’! He alongside his sympathizers should have started shouting ‘wolf’ when Ooni ascended and he was appointed abobaku..would have made more sense..truly. This is what he signed up for..likewise some who get entangled in d occultic world.

    • @NIKE, ITS SEEMS YOU ARE TRYING TO MAKE SOME SENSE OF THE ISSUE BY BLAMING THE VICTIM. TYPICAL NAIJA STYLE…. LETS ASSUMED THE MAN KNEW WHAT HE WAS GETTING INTO OR EVEN LETS SAY HE VOLUNTEERED HIMSELF…. ALL THAT DOES NOT EXCUSE A BARBARIC ACT! WHICH IS THE BOTTOM LINE…CALL A SPADE A SPADE
IT’S EITHER AS AFRICAN, WE DO NOT HAVE A BRAIN TO RECOGNIZE AN ACT OF INJUSTICE OR WE HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED TO IGNORE THE ACT AND THE PERPETRATOR, TO JUST BLAME THE VICTIM… I REMEMBER DEBATING THIS ISSUE OF ABOBAKU WITH MY MOTHER YEARS AGO, ALL THOUGH SHE UNDERSTOOD MY POINT OF HOW CRAZY THE PRACTICE IS..SHE STILL CONCLUDED IT’S THE CULTURE AND IT AS TO BE FULFILLED, I ASKED HER IF IT WAS HER SON THAT WILL BE BURIED ALIVE WITH THE KING, HOW WILL SHE FEEL?…SHE REMAINED MUTE!!! SMH!
I SEE MY PEOPLE BLAMES A RAPE VICTIM TIME AFTER TIME…I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND…

    • Shasha yah i dont aggree on human sacrifice but he must face enjoy the previllages of being obobake until the end of his life ????????

  8. This culture has been in existence in the the days of Pharaoh’s. According to the Ancient Egyptian history, all Pharaoh’s that died were buried with their belongings including Slaves, Horses, Gold, Maids in the same Tomb with them. Their belief’s at that time was that the Pharaohs were not actually dead but embark on spiritual journey to another World and whenever they were on transit, they were still going to need all those belongings just as they needed them when they were on Earth. As time goes on people perception changed and some thieves started going to that tomb to steal all those things. Nothing strange had happened to those thieves. It was just about people’s belief. Now back to our homeland, Abobaku in Yoruba tradition is a chietancy title hold by the chosen person during coronation of the King. This title may be an inheritance which means some family are known to be the Abobaku’s family, somebody from that family will hold that title until the king passes away but they have to bury him along side the king alive. So, from day one this individual knew he is going to die when Oni dies. There is one thing that people never mentioned about the benefits that come along with this title. The Abobaku’s enjoy the same privileges that King enjoy. Whatever he needs he get it just as King give an order, but the sad part of it is they must be buried the same day with the King . Another good thing is, if that King lives long, the loss may not be much. Now, the question is can we still put up with the ignorancy in this present civilization?.

  9. This act is repugnant to natural justice…why nt let d poorman be since the kind or monarch involved preached against dis act.the cow should be a better option.

  10. This act is repugnant to natural justice…why nt let d poorman be since the king or monarch involved preached against dis act.the cow should be a better option.

  11. If I may ask, what if the Abobaku dies before the king what will happen? Be as it may, this is barbaric act and other barbaric acts practiced by other tribes should be scrapped. The world is wiser now than in the stone age.

  12. This act will be the last in the land. I believ the next king wil forbid the attitude. The family of OBABAKU wil deny dis useles title themselves. Watch out

  13. It very disheartening that in this century some people are very stupid and wicked to attempt such animalistic act. Am surprised GBM is not saying anything. Then, where is change we re all talking about. Even the press is so enslaved that none is really talking. Thanks

  14. Wonders shall never end! I think Nigeria Government should do something about it. The Bible said, no wickend will go unpunished. His blood will remain on those that will bury any humanbeing alive.

  15. THERE IS A CURSE HOVERING AROUND ILE IFE AND AS A MATTER OF FACT THE ENTIRE YORUBA KINDRED THAT CALL FOR URGENT CLEANSING. AND I ALSO WANT USE THIS MEDIUM TO PRAY FOR FAMILLY OF ABOBAKU TO REPENT AND ACCEPT JESUS AS THEIR PERSONAL LORD AND SAVOUR OR THEY SHALL LIKEWISE PERISH LIKE THE DEPARTED

  16. I wish this abobaku is my brother, will rather use my hand to kill him than dying this way. Idiot people to hell with the ooni and his generation.

  17. Mumu, instead of him to run to Cannan Land to visit Bishop Oyedepo. Noncense guy. Ur next generation will we never indulge in such naughty act.

  18. I wished he knew God through Christ, they wouldn’t have summoned him back with powerful evil juju to palace. His return was not just like that.

  19. No one should be blame, the Abobaku himself knows his statuse and understands it clearly just like co-horts chiefs and the tra-guards to let there be justice through there acceptable taditional rules. If Abobaku followed the demised king that was his position he has mandated himself and his lifetime for.

  20. Before now the Abobaku must have been aware of the consequences of the post he has attained, So i see no reason why he should run away from his final duty.

He has been enjoying all benefit he never work for and for every business your tend to make a profit .

  21. we are still observing this type of sacrifice?, let us stand up against all these, we are civilized enough.

  22. GOD NEVER PRODUCE A GOOD GOVERNMENT FROM US IN NIGERIA WHY OUR GOVERNMENT FOLD THERE HAND AND LISTEN TO ALL HOLDING TRADITIONAL RULES TO ALLOW THEM TO USED HUMAN BEEN TO BE USING FOR SACRIFICE WITH SOME ONE AND WE PRAYING FOR CHANGES IN NIGERIA

  23. it’s true, you all says the right thing, but i want us to think perfectly and understandable, because this abobakun have also ate with the oba, goes every where with the oba, they share every single thing besides he knows the consequency of the post he gain,i don’t think he has the right to fly up like the way he flew away,if you are getting me right, don’t get me wrong oooo, althogh it not proper to bury someone alive a human like you but God knows the best.

  24. For the uninformed, please read the play by Wole Soyinka – Death and the King’s Horseman. The practise has been around since the days of the Pharaoh (Old Egyptian civilisation). And should have been stumped out by now in the 21st century. It is unfair to paint the Yoruba people with the same brush due to the practises of a few well connected occultist in our midst. I’m sure the whole town is equally appalled by this babaric act – if it ever took place.
Thank God for social media for spreading this news.

  25. that is a very stupid and barbaric culture, in most if not in all Yoruba, there still exist one form of barbaric rituals or the other…, too bad at this 21 century
