Heartbreaking Story Of Nigerians Kidnapped At An Estate In Kubwa Abuja
According to recent reports, the gunmen who abducted several residents from the Grow Home Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, a satellite town of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Friday night, have demanded N50 million ransom from the affected families, amidst the current naira scarcity in the country.
Although some of the victims have been released by the kidnappers, it was reported on Monday that no less than 11 people still remained with the kidnappers because their families had yet to pay the ransom.
As we reported earlier, the gunmen had stormed the estate around 10pm on Friday, shot sporadically and made away with several victims, including a pastor, his wife and three children, totaling no fewer than 15 persons. The attackers escaped through the forest around 11pm but were forced to allow about seven persons to escape after gunshots from the vigilantes.
Policemen from the Byzahin division and the Kubwa Area Command had visited the scene to conduct preliminary findings and interrogate some of the victims.
A source close to the families of the abducted persons disclosed that the kidnappers had contacted them and demanded N50 million ransom, creating more anxiety for the affected families already traumatized by the abduction of their loved ones. The demand for ransom in exchange for the freedom of kidnap victims has been a growing concern in Nigeria with several incidents reported in recent times.
