NYSC Corper Nnamdi Emeh Arrested For Stealing N47M From Suspect’s Bank Account
The Anambra State Police Command has announced the arrest of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Nnamdi Emeh, who was working as an IT consultant to the command for allegedly stealing the sum of N47 million from a suspect’s account.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Echeng Echeng, made this known during a press briefing in Awka, while disclosing that some other criminal suspects have also been arrested and are in custody.
Emeh had gained national attention earlier this year after he revealed, through an online platform in January, some damning evidences of atrocities allegedly committed by some officers of the Anambra State Police Command, including organ harvesting and extra-judicial killings. His whistleblowing activities had caused serious tensions within the police force, with the police declaring him wanted for impersonation.
During a recent press briefing in Awka, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Echeng Echeng, announced that Nnamdi Emeh, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and a whistleblower serving in the state police command, allegedly stole the sum of N47 million from a suspect’s account. Emeh was working as an IT consultant for the Anambra State Police Command and attached to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu.
The commissioner stated that Emeh had revealed evidence of atrocities committed by some officers of the state command, ranging from organ harvesting to extra-judicial killings via an online platform in January. He was declared wanted for impersonation and subsequently arrested in Benin Republic by INTERPOL operatives after fleeing Nigeria.
However, the police commissioner confirmed that Emeh is in custody and his case is before the Federal High Court. Emeh was accused of hacking into one of Mr Chibuike Martins Ekwueme’s accounts and fraudulently transferring a total sum of N47 million to his 14 different accounts.
The police commissioner also revealed that some other criminal suspects have been arrested and are in custody. Echeng assured the public that the command would continue to work tirelessly to maintain law and order within the state and ensure the safety and security of all citizens. He urged the public to support the police by providing them with timely information and reporting any suspicious activities in their communities.
However, Emeh was subsequently arrested in Benin Republic by INTERPOL operatives after fleeing Nigeria. During the press briefing, Commissioner Echeng confirmed that Emeh was already in the custody of the police, and his case was already before the Federal High Court.
The arrest of Emeh has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some expressing disappointment and questioning the motive behind his arrest. Some others have expressed support for the police, stating that no one is above the law and that Emeh must face the consequences of his alleged actions.
It remains unclear how Emeh was able to steal such a huge amount of money from a suspect’s account and what the motive behind the alleged theft was. The police commissioner did not provide further details on the matter during the press briefing.
The NYSC has not yet released an official statement on the matter, but some Nigerians have expressed concerns about the safety of corps members who may be working as IT consultants to the police and other government agencies.
This latest development highlights the need for proper background checks and vetting of personnel, especially those working in sensitive positions. It also emphasizes the importance of whistleblowing in exposing corruption and other forms of wrongdoing in government agencies. However, it is important to ensure that whistleblowers are protected and not victimized for doing the right thing.
