“PDP 2015 Presidential Ticket Belongs To A Northerner” – Obasanjo Against Jonathan’s Reelection

Obasanjo Believes A Northerner Should Be Nigeria’s Next President, Jonathan Breaks 2011 Agreement With Him

Ex-President Obasanjo had a lengthy discussion with Journalists yesterday in Abeokuta Ogun State over his stand with People Democratic Party and his disagreement with alleged criminal, Buruji Kashamu’s membership in the ruling party.

Obasanjo who claimed PDP should have disallowed Buruji’s membership also blasts Jonathan for running for reelection.

He said his agreement with Jonathan in 2011 was that a Northerner should be allowed to contest in 2015.

Read Obasanjo’s full press statement below:

“My interest and commitment to Nigeria go beyond partisan politics. Under no condition will my commitment to Nigeria be diminished.”

“For me, it is commitment to Nigeria first and any other commitment can only follow in second or third place. Where any other commitment is in tandem with what I see and understand as commitment to Nigeria, such other commitment will share a pride of place with Nigeria.”

“Today, Nigeria needs all hands on deck to deal with our pressing problems of security including the issue of Chibok girls, widening inequality, infrastructure, impunity, corruption, poverty and youth education, skill-acquisition, empowerment and employment.

“These are issues of concern to most Nigerians. We all need to join hands to move Nigeria forward. I don’t need to be begged for that.”

“Talking of inviting me back to PDP is wrong and it is a great misrepresentation as I have never left PDP and I will never leave PDP.”

“I have said it before and I will say it again, I rose to become the President of Nigeria on the platform of PDP and for that reason alone, I will remain a card-carrying and ward-active member of PDP for as long as I have to be a political party member.”

“Nobody has personally offended me as a result of my membership of PDP. If, however, anybody or group feels offended by my continued membership, I will offer an unreserved apology but continue to remain in the party.

“I have had occasions to say to the President, the Senate President and the Party Chairman separately that I have no quarrel with any individual or group in the Party.”

My refusal to play an active role in the PDP, is an issue of principle and morality.

“For instance, as a former President of Nigeria, the Chairman of West Africa Commission on Drug and a member of Global Commission on Drug, I cannot accept that the Zonal leader of my political Party and, worse still in my zone, will be an indicted drug baron wanted in America. How do I explain that to friends outside Nigeria?” he said in reference to Buruji Kashamu, a PDP South West leader and ally of President Goodluck Jonathan.

“This is only one of the many issues that I have pointed and still pointing out,” he said.

He promises to remain active in PDP ONLY at ward level.

In a letter published earlier by Premium Times, Obasanjo had said by deciding to seek re-election, Mr. Jonathan was going against all the agreements they had in 2011 when Mr. Obasanjo was the president’s chief campaigner across the country.

The ex-president believes by his agreement with Jonathan back in 2011, the Presidential ticket for 2015 should go to a northerner.

@ Chi, is it Jonathan, you are calling poor young man? He is neither young nor poor. It is within the masses you find the poor young men who Jonathan continues to disgrace by his failure to govern properly and his refusal to leave same position given said incompetence. Jonathan shouldnt get anyones pity and certainly not mine! Please let them continue to fight themselves, maybe someday, something good may come out of their ***k measuring contest and the carnage in this country MIGHT end.

OBJ talks as though he’s dealn wit zombies whose memories are short; who lack d capacity of analytical thought. Jst look d laughable way he sounds like he respects agreements. Was it nt an agreement, even bakd up by our constitution, 2 hav a maximum of 2 terms of 8yrs? Yet he tried 2 break it & hav 3 terms of 12yrs. Thank God he faild. He speaks about principle, bt a man of principle wouldnt hav attemptd dis selfish thing he did. Evry anger he vents @ GEJ 2day only stems frm his failure 2 engrave himself 4eva as a democratic monarch in Aso Rock. D/4 he shdnt com 2day & pose as having moral ascendancy ova GEJ or any oda psn 4dat mata. He shd com off it,4 they all r d same! D one & only principld man I knew is, un4tn8ly, no more. We calld him Madiba.

Even though I disagree with former president Olusegun Obasanjo in many fronts, but this time around, I feel strongly that a northerner should be elected Nigeria next president for many reasons. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is the pioneer of all Nigeria misfortune, setbacks, many problems and our present badluck. After sixteen years of gross corruption, selfishness, setbacks, and all sorts of political craziness by southern presidents (Olusegun and Badluck Jonathan) in Aso Rock, I think it would be wise for us to elect a competent and patriotic Nigerian citizen from the north for the unity, progress and peace of our beloved nation. A competent man with integrity from north can become Nigeria next president for the following reasons:

First, it will be a fair game in our young democracy to have a northern president after 14 years of president Obasanjo and Badluck Jonathan combined. I don’t believe in zoning presidency because it doesn’t represent true democracy in anyway. But if we have a great leader with the heart and willingness to serve the people’s interests, his tribe or language should not be an hindrance. This is what is called fair representation in a true democracy. Some self centered politicians/elites argued that power should remain in the south because they are afraid of a Muslim president. This group of unpatriotic Nigerian politicians are not honest because they are only interested in the continuation of Jonathan’s failures, corruption and mismanagement so that the looting will continue. This current administration is far worst than Abacha regime in many ways. Abacha was president for six years and he did not add one kobo to the prices of petrol and kerosene during his regime. Though Abacha was brutal, but he was fully in charge of the nation’s affairs and there was no bombing of innocent Nigerians by terrorists until we reelected the most imcompentent president ever in Nigerian history in the 2011 general election.

Moreover, Islam is not Nigerian problem. Our problems are corruption, looting of national treasury, selfishness, imcompentence, mismanagement, unpatriotic altitudes, election fraud, youth unemployment, bad leadership, outdated physical infrastructures, shattered educational system, and lack of vision to move our nation forward by Nigerian corrupt politicians. As a Christian from Southwest region of Nigeria, I see Islam as a religious of peace for those Muslims that are studious, and those practising Muslims in this category refused to be brainwashed by religious fanatic and mind manipulators.

In addition to that, some of our people have short memories. How? Have you forgotten that this present democracy was crafted by a northern “Head of State” after the sudden death of General Sanni Abacha. General Abdul Salam handed over power voluntarily and peacefully after his brief stay in power to Obasanjo in the year 1999. He was not power hunger and a liar like president Badluck Jonathan. So what is wrong with a failure like president Jonathan to hand over power to a competent and patriotic president if he comes north?

Finally, those unpatriotic Nigerians pushing this failed president to remain in power against the will of the people will soon desert him when things finally get out of control. As long as Nigeria remain one indivisible nation, no Nigerian should be afraid of anyone coming from any section of the country as our president. After all, Jonathan is from the minority of the minority in Nigeria current geographic setting, but yet he became Nigerian president twice. He was first sworn as Nigerian president after the sudden death of president Yaradua, and he was reelected again in 2011. President Jonathan openly declared many times during his reelection bid in 2011 that he will not seek for any reelection come 2015 if Nigerians give him another opportunity to serve. Today, president Badluck Ebele Jonathan is spending 20 billion dollars looted money from the NNPC account to bribe his way to power against the will of Nigerian people. Only in Nigeria can a failure like president Badluck seek for reelection with total disregard people’s voices or votes in our corrupt political setting. I’m not afraid of a northern or Igbo president as long as he has vision to move the nation forward, have confident, competent, smart, patriotic, and the willingness to unite us and destroy Boko Haram insurgency. Patriotism, good management skills, competency, integrity, intelligent, and discipline are some qualities of a great president and a leader, and it so pitiful that president Badluck possesses nor of those mentioned qualities. I will rather cast my vote for patriotic and competent Muslim candidate in any election rather than vote for a cultist, unpatriotic, corrupt and imcompentent candidate who disguised as true Christian. My people, Is time for a change in order to move Nigeria forward.

If truly Obasanjo said all of those trash somebody should please take my message to him to and this is the message..” Obasan i am sorry to say you are a disgrace to your children, the nation at large and your age is questionable, but most importantly, you have lost your sense of reasoning by taking about the following, Infrastructure, insecurity, shifting of power to the north etc, let me even ask… does he mean that he is “Nigeria”..? by dictating who and where the precedence should go, bcos i thought this Nigerians he is concern about has the mandate to elect her president and not Mr Obasanjo to detect for the people by the way if he wants the northernance to rule why then was he agitating for third term, why didn’t he allows Atiko to rule when himself and Atiko was doing power torsuling… i think Mr OBJ needs needs medical attention….

you know when people start getting old their sense of reasoning starts diminishing. Obasanjo is suppose to be rotting in jail by now but because we have no functioning system his is free talking rubbish.
