41-Year Old Driver Charged With Manslaughter
The accused is alleged to have killed a man in Igando, while driving recklessly
Oct 12, 2011 – A 41-year-old driver, Mr. Rasheed Sikiru, was on Tuesday charged with manslaughter and reckless driving before an Ejigbo Magistrate Court in Lagos.
Sikiru, who is standing trial on a two-count charge of dangerous driving and manslaughter, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The police prosecuting officer, Oladejo Balogun, told the court that the accused committed the offence on September 29, at about 8 p.m, at Egbeda bus-stop, Lagos.
Balogun alleged that Sikiru, being the driver in-charge of one Mack lorry with registration number: KD 967 BDJ, drove the vehicle dangerously without due care and attention to other road users.
He said that the accused’s recklessness caused the death of one Mr. Jimoh Oyedapo, of No. 62 Imoba Compound, Igando, Lagos.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 27(1) and 28 (1), Cap 124 of the Road Traffic Act of Lagos State.
Chief Magistrate Sherifat Solebo granted the accused bail conditioned upon the payment of N500,000 and the guarantee of two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till November 9 for further hearing.
