Jail Time For Cutting Down Trees in Lagos

Oct 4, 2011 – Lagos state Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, has cautioned that anybody who gets captured cutting down trees in Lagos state is at risk of getting locked up in Jail. Lagos state ministry of environment has successfully planted about 10,000 trees and has warned that they’ll not put up with anyone who cuts down the trees.

The declaration was made during the commissioning of projects carried out by the Region 1 of the International Association of Lions Clubs held at the training center in Ajao Estate in Anthony Village, Lagos. Speaking through Mrs Adebola Raji, Tunji Bello said his ministry is preparing to add additional 15,000 trees in different regions of the state within the next 4 years. He also advised Lagosians never to cut down trees because they assist in beautifying environmental surroundings and protect the environment from stormy weather conditions.
