A 40-year-old man, Akeem Olanrewaju, was on Tuesday sentenced to two weeks imprisonment by an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for parking illegally on a highway.

The defendant, Akeem, committed the offence on Saturday while driving a Nissan car marked OYO EGB37XA around the Orita Challenge in Ibadan by 8.20p.m.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Olalekan Obayanju, accused the defendant of going against the traffic law, by parking his car on the highway, thus committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 34 of the Road Traffic Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

The defendant who pleaded guilty as charged, was sentenced to two weeks imprison with an option of N3,000 fine by Chief Magistrate Adams Adeshina.

Meanwhile, a 35-year old man, Oseni Oladejo, has been dragged before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Black Berry smart phone worth N65,000 belonging to one Fatai Fadipe.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Foluke Adedosu, told the court that two other mobile phones were found in Olanrewaju’s possession, stressing that he committed the offence contrary to and punishable under sections 390 and 428 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol II Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and unlawful possession of property.

Chief Magistrate Adams Adeshina admitted him to accepted his bail with the like sum of N50, 000 as well as two reliable sureties and adjourned the matter till January 17, 2013 for conclusive hearing.
