Nov 13, 2012 – NCC Bans Nigerian Telecom Operators From Lotteries & Promotions

Effective immediately, NCC has ordered a ban to all promotions and lotteries activities being carried out by major Nigerian Telecommunication operators.

The Nigerian Communications Commission received complaints from bitter customers of those telecom operators after they perceived the operators are scamming them through constant lotteries and promotions with no winnings.

Tony Ojobo, the spokesperson for NCC made the announcement today.

The following operators are popular for running lotteries and promos in Nigeria:

  • Globacom Ltd
  • MTN
  • Intercellular Nig. Plc
  • Visafone Comms Ltd
  • Etisalat
  • Airtel Networks Ltd
  • Multilinks Telecoms Ltd

That's a good one from the commission. The exploitation of the average Nigerian is becoming unbearable. who could have believed that the so called operators are actually fraud stars in disguise. I think NCC can do better than this; if we agree that Nigerians have been shortchanged, then these operators should be made to face punitive measures.

We should look beyond the ban to more pertinent matters. No business gives when it will not profit. For telecoms operators to make ludicrous promises, like winning an aeroplane to a successful participant, reveals the fact that they are exploiting and drilling our pockets dry!

NCC should not end at banning promos which may be the only benefit the common man in our country stands to enjoy. We should not throw out the baby with the bath-water. Instead NCC should endeavour to bring about a reasonable reduction the tariffs.

I can see no reason why I should pay more for what I can get for less!!!
