August 1st, 2012 – The New Me By Stella Damasus
I attended an event called the Good Life at Ceddi Plaza in Abuja. It was a gathering of people that love good music and poetry. It’s a free event and all you had to do was show up. If you had talent or felt the need to share something, you were free to attend the show.
I had a great time at the event but my highest point was when a trumpeter performed a medley of songs that blew my mind. To top it up he gave out a book for free. A truly amazing man, or so I thought till I read the book and found something more amazing than the man himself.
The book titled: Crumbs is written by a young man, Bayo Martins. I want to share some of the interesting things I read in the book.
•IMPOSSIBLE is POSSIBLE still in the making. (Nothing is impossible to God) Luke 1:37
•Don’t underestimate “small”, you’ll find lots of it in “Big”. Job 8:7
•Your predominant thoughts would most likely be those you are trying not to think if you are not feeding on what you would rather be thinking. Philippians 4:8
•Negative obsession = Addiction, Positive obsession = Focus. Hebrews 12:1
• Life is like a movie. The producer has given the script, it’s called the “SCRIPTURES”.
So, let there be:
LIGHT! (Insight from the word)
CAMERA! (Pictures of the future created by speaking the word)
ACTION! (Definite deeds to actualise the desired future) Psalm 139:16
•I’ve seen enough failures. I choose not to rewrite those chapters of history. Romans 15:4
•When it comes to vision, God shows you the picture, hands you the colours and says “paint”. Habakkuk 2:1-2
• If you want people to take you seriously, don’t dress unseriously. 1st Timothy 2:9
• You already know where you are coming from. Where you are going to is more important. Phillipians 3:13-14
• When afraid of making mistakes, keep in mind that there was a time you couldn’t even spell your name right. Joshua 1:9
•No matter what the devil reads to you about you, read it in your own version, you’ll be surprised at the contrast. Joshua 8:44
•Sometimes, walking with God is a little risky: You cross the road first before you consider taking a look right or left. Genesis 12:1
• Listen to yourself … Preferably before you say something. Proverbs 21:23
•Change is a type of permanence that’s temporary. 2nd Corinthians 4:18
I also discovered the meaning of a few things which I was not sure of before. Forgive me for sounding like this, but the truth is that I am not ashamed to acknowledge the fact that I still have a lot to learn and still I’m learning every day.

Imagine having a 160- page book filled with inspiration, truth and things we need as reminders everyday. I am so excited about the book that people around me are tired of hearing about it. Recently, my life took a different turn and I know that it was the perfect time that God had allocated for His will in my life to be made manifest.
He allowed me to go through a long and not so pleasant process in such a short time. I have now realised that He is ready to use me for His glory. I know that a lot of people will intentionally misinterpret what I have just said. The truth is that, its not about anybody else, not even me, but all about God whom we should all live for.
I don’t have to be a pastor or minister or evangelist to know that the world we live in has come to an end, and we are all just waiting for the time that Jesus will come back.
I don’t need to tell anyone to go and check the book of Revelations before they will see proof of things that are happening all over the world already. Yours truly has started yet another journey, but this time, the right journey and that is to find out more of God, His promises to me, His love for me, my relationship with Him, my work for Him and my walk with Him.
This is the reason why I have decided to carefully choose what I listen to, what I watch, what I read, what I say, what I think about, what I practise, the friends I keep, what I teach, what I eat and what I drink. The truth is I have been having a blast in this journey of mine, to the point that people around me have noticed the difference in who I am now. Most importantly, my children are happier now and more mature as they have willingly joined me on this journey.
This is the reason I am able to look at people and all I want to do is reach out and help. The Stella Damasus Arts Foundation is doing so much for people in the arts now, without sponsorship. God has been my sponsor. He also sent people to make things lighter for me. My work with Lamboginny Say no to Crime, Project Alert, has also changed the way I see life.
The one we started last year is called Adiva. This is where we bring thousands of young girls together and mentor them, empower and encourage them. We have helplines and you will be amazed at the amount of calls and emails we receive everyday. I cry sometimes when young girls talk about how their fathers, teachers, neighbours etc, abuse them. Some women have called in fear because of violence from their families.
I also just became a member of a gospel group in Abuja called One Heart One Sound created and founded by Daniel Ademinokan. We have started a movement of young people who just want to worship and honour God, showing the world an alternative to negativity through music, dance and drama. We will also organise a singing competition on 5 August and a concert on 11August in Abuja. There are lots of prizes including cash prizes and a free music video to be won.
