July 19, 2012 – Notorius Robbery Gang Arrested In Lagos
The police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a seven-man robbery gang before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, charged with stealing two mobile phones worth N53,000.
Members of the robbery gang are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony and robbery before Magistrate Taiwo Akanni.
The defendants were:
- Sodiq Shittu (24)
- Stanley Augustin (28)
- Chukwuka Ezeilo (22)
- Abayomi Olubuade (19)
- Suleiman Layiwola (24)
- Taye Akatah (25)
- Wale Oje (24).
The prosecutor, Inspector Samson Ekikere, told the court that the defendants and others now at large, on July 5 stole one Blackberry and one Nokia mobile phones from Olajide Ajikanle and Kayode Adesanya at Mile 2 Bus Stop.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 5(b), 297 and 295 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
All the seven defendants pleaded not guilty.
Akanni granted the defendants a bail of N 100,000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter to August 22 for trial.
