Nigerian Police Recruitment 2013: 3rd Class Degree & SSCE Holders Disqualified

nigerian police recruitment 2013

Dec 18, 2012 – Nigerian Police Recruitment 2013: 3rd Class Degree & SSCE Holders Disqualified

Police Service Commission says holders of Secondary School Certificate would no longer be accepted into the Nigeria Police Force as constables.

It said the minimum entry requirement now was Ordinary National Diploma.

The commission also stated that Third Class degree holders were no longer accepted as Cadet Inspectors, in line with the reform in the force.

PSC Commissioner and Chairman, Public Affairs Committee of the commission, Ms. Comfort Obi, who stated this at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, explained that the commission had reviewed the recruitment process into the police.

According to her, the PSC has over the years formulated policies aimed at the efficiency and discipline of the police force, adding that background checks are now carried out on applicants to separate bad eggs and discourage people of shady characters from joining the police.

Obi stated that polygraph tests were also carried out on applicants to determine drug users, alcoholics and liars that could tarnish the image of the force.

She said, “The mechanism put in place by the commission is in line with police regulations to ensure that bad eggs don’t find their way into the force. We are focusing on the recruitment process and have raised the minimum entry requirements.

“SSCE holders can no longer join the police as constables; even a third class degree holder cannot join the Cadet Inspector cadre. The minimum qualification for a constable is OND and it must include six credit passes in SSCE including Credit pass in English and Mathematics.”

The PSC Commissioner in charge of Strategy, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, explained that written examinations had been introduced for applicants, adding that promotions in the force were based on merit.

He explained that 599 cases of indiscipline were treated between 2008 and 2011. He said 94 officers were compulsorily retired, and a number of others were sanctioned for various offences. [Punch]

Is corruption link to certificate?.The NPF should be more focuse on how to reduse corruption which has eaten in to the farbric of it’s born, through practical and sincere screaning of applicants with proven intergrity instead of proposing what they will n

Now everybody is running away from third class degree, who will now accept 3rd class degree. To be sincere, Nigeria forces are not suppose to reject 3rd class candidates. For their information, 3rd class does not mean that the person is a failure or a dull head. If they don’t like the degree anymore they scrap it from our institutions. Please this has to be looked into seriously. Thank you.

Well the idea is not that bad in the area of nsecurity, but it have much disadvantage because in the area of specialisation will an OND holder know how to drive a lorry or will an OND holder be well experince in auto mechanic area thus they might be theorically fitted but what about the practical aspect.for we know that the practical can only be done well and better by those who learnt it by road side machanic so therefore they should have a rethink and probabilly apply it in general duties officer only

Oga I.G. reconsider your reformation in areas of certificate, its a great mistake Nigerians did not realise till date. The world bests are uncertificated, it is the idea of what you have to offer on a practical ground and not what you dont know how it is aquire, by so doing you are recruiting a wrong person who aquire those things you are demanding by means of crook and or thug. like cultism, etc.please have your parameters of absorbing the inteligent among others.
    thank u and God bless

Pls Police shld know that 3rd class is a class of degree awarded by universities and some of them when given a chance always do d best in terms of work performance because they don’t want their superior to see lapses in them. So pls give them a chance a second chance as God do give us humans. Mrs Comfort Obi & co. have mercy on such category of degree holders. Those with Second class categories are still scouting for job no matter how small even first class & you are metting this hardship on people. Well there is still hope for them remember you carry gun they also can carry gun and other sophisticated weapons – Bombs, Grenade, IEDs, rocket launchers, even juju and do better than your well educated and better degree awarded officers and then apply their rejected knowledge and expertise there and you know what? Government will start calling them for dialogue and at the end will grant them ammnesty much more higher and juicy than your life earnings and gratuity. Then shame will be on you! Watch Out cos the Nation is about to weep for all these injustice metted on the poor masses.

Is qualification a criterial 4 good behaviour? If d answer is no y dn do u tink u can sanitize d system by rejecting pple wit a lower level of degree. Even when we know that some pple who can pay their way with notin upstair can get wat ever d 1. Mr ig the problem of the force is not qualification but curuption from the highest level to the lowest level. Ar u tring to tel nigerians that prof wole is more corupt than those with second class and first class in our society today.

I’m in total support of restructuring the body but the question is how does a class of degree makes someone responsible and incorritible? Mr I.G, in tryin to saniti3e the organi3ation,the following must be put in place: elimination of corruption is the number one factor that must be considerd..it is a known fact that the organisatn is very corrupt and nigeria as a whole..2ndly,indiscipline is anoda factor to b considered..inconclusion, we are in a country where by those that are doing things legally are often not favoured..for instance, I made a 2.2 frm d university and does not make me better than the ones with 3rd class and pass..also,some of my mates that made 2.1 bought the result either by cash or by kind..having a decree frm a federal sch no easy oga police..so,we must be very careful b.cos ur class of degree is not sign dt one is good academically and responsible..so,mr i.g. Inorder to prevent crimes in nigeria dos dt are willin to serve their country shud b considerd and forget abt d class of degrees..Any valid university or polythenic certificate is a enough. Thank u

To reform the NPF is a good idea,bt the question,is our so called leaders portraiting good example.the screenind of grades is not the issue bt nt discouraging the young ones ready to serve the nation.I finish from uniibadan,so I can tell what it takes to be a graduate irrespective of grades.so Mr I.G look for better ways of reform.

It is only God dat will punish all Nigeria top officials, did u people knw hw some of us manage 2 scale out of secondary school, frm farmer 2 sch frm sch 2 farmer nw bcose God hv given u al d opportunity u hv knw wat is called 1st, 2nd to reject third class and o level, did u people think u wil go free God is watching u al, U people ar causing more harm 2 dis country bcos d level of unemployment in d country is increasing, u people beter seat back on dis issue hence God is going 2 destroy all one after d others in pain $ sorrow, devilish leaders.

IG u shuld knw wat is happenin in our nation’s universities these days. Where d bst degrees are hardly given based on merit. Good degree is purchased either by cash or kind as d case may be. By doin so, d Police Force is only encouragin corruption at d highest level where by majority of d recruited officers will a corrupt lot. It makes no difference or sense. In my opinion let recruitment exercise be base on merit of examination set by d Force. Yet i knw it can neva be based on merit bcos we all knw wat it takes 2 be in d force bcos pple lyk u, d IG & his cohorts are d godfathers 2 successful candidates in d recruitment exercise.

I guess the Nigerian police authorities are getting more confused than we thought they were. While we all call for sanity and class in the police force, i dont think anyone wiould welcome any dumb and meaningless reforms. Gani Fawehimi, Wole Soyinka etc came out of the universities with 3rd class degrees and still went ahead to be the best this country ever had. Most 1st class holders we know only anchor around employed jobs to milk/parasite and mostly lack initiative. I read and lived in the uk and have never came accross this kind of dumb policy anywhere. The British police which is so efficient recruit from GCSE which is same with ssce here and any degree class does suffice so long as you can deliver. I guess the national assembly should intervene in this madness as this might also be another face of our corrupt police scams.

Good day sir, the issue of third class should be looked into, being a graduate those not mean you can deliver bcz wisdom is different from knowledge, an ssce or 3rd class holder can be more better in the field of handling guns while others can be good in office work, able IGP please…

    July 31, 2013 at 4:18 PM

Well, dis Idea is good but wil have to consider d pple dat have 3rd class bec smost of dem have home problem in term of finance. If u look at d education in nigeria if u don’t have money or ur parent don’t have money men u can’t go school dat wat make most pple strugle to go school and at d end of it he/she may end up in having 3rd class,it all bec their is not enough time to concentrate in sch. Even pple dat have 1st or 2nd class most of dem can’t even defend his/her result bec dey ronce it. So sir/ma reconsider, all will need in police force is pple dat have sense. U can no dat tru proper recruitment.
