Sept 9, 2012 – Governor Fashola Rejects Chieftaincy Title From Oba Oniru

Lagos state Governor Fashola have turned down a chieftaincy title from Oba Oniru of Iru Land (Oba Abiodun Idowu Oniru) that was offered to him during the 75th birthday of the Monarch on Saturday the 8th of Sept, 2012.

Fashola claims he could not accept the title because he plans to focus on his duty as the governor of Lagos State.

Here is what he said:

Kabiyesi and his chiefs can continue to lead us, let them deal  with all those traditional and chieftancy issues. At the appropriate  time, we will come and join them, but for now, leave us in our suits,  booths, overalls and helmets, because this agbada is not good for  clearing refuse and tarring the roads.”
