Anti-Robbery Squad Arrests Fake Lawyer in Lagos

Oct 16,2011 – A man alleged to be a fake lawyer has been arrested by police detectives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command.

The alleged fake lawyer, Gabriel Gana, from Adamawa State, has a Diploma in Law from the College of Legal Studies Yola, a school affiliated with the University of Maiduguri.

He was paraded before journalists yesterday, at the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, by the police spokesperson, Samuel Jinadu, who said that the suspect would soon be charged to court for impersonation.

Gana carried an identity card with the designation of a Litigation officer of Fortune chambers, located at 32 Awolowo Way, Ikeja, with which he intended to pass himself off as a lawyer, to effect the release of a suspect in police detention.

The alleged impersonator, we gathered, had come all the way from Abuja to the office of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Lagos, to solicit bail for the release of one Lawal Terra, whom he said was his brother.

Police said he was directed to the officer in charge of the matter, before whom he claimed to be a lawyer and asked that Terra be released to him.

The police then asked for his identification card and some questions were put to him, which he could not answer.

Police said a lawyer was invited to also ask Gana questions which he again failed to answer and “knowing fully well that he had entered police trap, he began to fabricate lies. The inconsistency in his words exposed him and he was arrested,” Jinadu said.
