Champions, Enyimba lose again
Oct 10, 2011 – Champions, Enyimba lost their fourth consecutive game in all competitions on Sunday as they were beaten 1-0 by Enugu Rangers in a dour rescheduled Nigeria Premier League (NPL) contest decided at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday.
Rangers bossed possession early on without creating too many clear cut openings as, Enyimba, fresh from their 1-2 loss to Kwara United in midweek sought to sit back and hit their hosts on the break.
The opening goal arrived under very controversial circumstances as Enyimba’s Chinedu Udoji went on for an interception in the box in the 40th minute. The defender appeared to have won the ball cleanly but a penalty was awarded to the consternation of the Enyimba players.
Set piece expert, Ifeanyi Egwim was never going to miss and his effort from 12 yards, dispatched with frightening forge proved to be the winner.
“We did our best and did our best. We did not deserve to lose but we must now concentrate on the games ahead,” Enyimba Coach, Okey Emordi told SuperSport.com after the game.
Enyimba remains in 9th place in the NPL with 51 points from 33 matches while Rangers move up to 5th with 57 points from 34 games. (Supersport)
