Not All Open Doors Are From God! Some Are Traps in Disguise! Beware!

This guide is based on Wisdom Quote by God’s Servant, Bishop Olaniyi Oyedepo
Not all open doors are God’s door, some are trap in disguise! beware!.”

Discerning God’s will is paramount in the journey of faith. Yet, not every opportunity that presents itself is a pathway ordained by God. The title, “Not all open doors are God’s door, some are traps in disguise! Beware!” serves as a profound reminder that vigilance and discernment are key in navigating life’s choices. As we explore this truth, let us be guided by the illumination of Scripture, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, and the counsel of the godly.

The concept of open doors in our lives often signifies opportunities, whether for personal growth, career advancement, or ministry. However, the allure of an open door can sometimes lead us astray, mistaking it for God’s endorsement without seeking His guidance. The Bible cautions us about this, reminding us that not all that glitters is gold. In the book of Proverbs, we find wisdom that speaks directly to this, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). This verse underscores the importance of discernment; what appears to be a beneficial path may lead to unforeseen consequences.

Moreover, Jesus Himself warned us about the wide and easy path that leads to destruction, contrasting it with the narrow gate that leads to life (Matthew 7:13-14). This metaphor extends beyond moral choices, encompassing the decisions we make daily, including those that seem benign or even promising. The ease of an opportunity does not guarantee its alignment with God’s will for our lives.

One key to discerning whether an open door is from God is peace. The peace of God, which transcends understanding, should guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). If an opportunity leaves you feeling uneasy, anxious, or troubled in spirit, it’s prudent to pause and seek the Lord in prayer. God’s guidance often comes with a sense of peace, even if the direction He leads us in is challenging.

Another indicator is the alignment with Scripture. God will never lead us contrary to His written Word. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). If an opportunity requires compromising biblical principles or ethics, it is not a door opened by God but a snare set by the enemy. Our actions and decisions must be rooted in the truth of Scripture, serving as our unwavering guide.

The counsel of godly wisdom is also vital in discerning God’s will. “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established” (Proverbs 15:22). Seeking advice from spiritually mature individuals who can offer biblical insight and prayerful support is crucial. Often, God uses the body of Christ to confirm His will or warn us against potential traps.

Furthermore, the Holy Spirit plays a critical role in guiding us. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would teach us all things and guide us into all truth (John 14:26, 16:13). Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s prompting, through prayer and meditation on God’s Word, is essential in distinguishing between God-given opportunities and distractions or traps in disguise.

It’s also important to consider the fruits of an opportunity. Jesus taught that we would recognize false prophets by their fruits (Matthew 7:16). Similarly, we can evaluate opportunities by their potential fruits. Does this path encourage spiritual growth, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)? Or does it lead to discord, stress, compromise, and spiritual stagnation?

In our eagerness to move forward, we must also be wary of impatience. Sometimes, what appears to be an open door is simply a temptation to rush ahead of God’s timing. “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27:14). Patience is a virtue that allows God’s perfect timing and will to unfold in our lives.

Lastly, let us be mindful that God’s will for us is good, pleasing, and perfect (Romans 12:2). Any opportunity that detracts from our relationship with God, that leads us into sin, or that causes harm to ourselves or others is not from Him. As we seek God’s will, let our prayer be that of the Psalmist: “Show me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths” (Psalm 25:4).

In conclusion, as we journey through life, faced with various open doors, let us tread with discernment, grounded in prayer, anchored in Scripture, guided by the Holy Spirit, and supported by the counsel of the godly. Not all open doors are God’s doors; some indeed are traps in disguise. By remaining vigilant, we can avoid these traps and walk through the doors God opens for us, leading to life, growth, and the fulfillment of His divine purpose for our lives. Let us then move forward with wisdom, discernment, and faith, trusting that our God will lead us on the path that leads to everlasting life.
