August 14, 2015 – Okunade Sijuwade’s Burial: Markets & Banks Closed In Ile Ife For 7 Days To Mourn Ooni
Ile Ife traditional chiefs have ordered markets in the city closed for 7 days.
This development followed the official announcement of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuwade’s death.
Town criers were spotted as early as 10am on Thursday at market places delivering messages to traders.
About two criers were seen at Lagere, Sabo, Oja Tuntun warning traders to comply to the order or face dire consequences.
All the commercial banks in the town have been closed as customers lined up at ATM points waiting to make quick withdrawals.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola also ordered the beautification of road sides from Ife-Ibadan expressway to OAU area as the city prepares to bury late Oba Sijuwade today.
