August 13, 2015 – Picture: The Talking Iroko Tree At Ooni Of Ife’s Palace Entrance Mourning Death Of Sijuwade As Tree Falling Ritual Commences
A source at the palace of late Ooni of Ife Oba Okunade Sijuwade who claimed to have Iived in the palace in the last 35 years of the reign of Ooni Sijwuade, said there were ominous signs the 50th Ooni might have “slept”.
He pointed to the above tree at the entrance of the palace and said that the mysterious Iroko tree appears to be mourning.
According to him, the tree usually, whenever in good mood, would respond to greetings in manner that only inhabitants of Ile Oodua (palace) understand.
He added that since the Ooni was reported dead and later refuted, the atmosphere around the palace appears moody and the tree at the entrance of Ooni’s palace, in response, is showing strange signs.
The last stage of the burial rites for Ooni of Ife is tree-felling ritual.
A source at the palace indicated the the ritual commenced on Tuesday the 11th of August.
