An average Yoruba man is entitled to more than one wife. The Oba has even a tripple-fold right to pick as many wives as his whims prompt him. The thing is, how many of them shall be buried alive with the Oba when he finally dies?

All persons from royal families are Princes and Princesses, whether or not their father is the reigning monarch. Ride on, Kabiyesi, you are exercising your prerogative right to acquire wives, including the Oloris inherited from his predecessor, the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade of blessed memory. There is nothing wrong with polygamy, if the man can be fair and treat the wives equally. I pray that God gives him wisdom to do the right thing between the Oloris.

Those who doesn’t understand Yoruba culture will be thinking that Oba Adeyeye is beginning to womanize. That is not true. From the day Kabiyesi was crowned as the most prominent and powerful king in Yoruba Kingdom-Oni of Ile Ife, I knew he will end up marrying at least four wives. As for me, I strongly believe that marrying one good wife will give a man everlasting peace. There is never going to be a king of Oni caliber that will ever marry a single wife. They are empower by some gods they serve to marry and coup with many wives with successful children. If an ordinary man marry like those earthy kings, he will die before his time. Olori Wuraola Otitis yio bi arole fun oba ni afin. Congratulations in advance Kabiyesi Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
