This Oga Olopa vex plenty today on Instagram when a polite Nigerian addressed him as “Dear Yomi”.

Henceforth the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) wants Nigerians to start addressing him as the Oga on top of the Nigeria Police Force **wink**.

  1. “Dear Sir” would suffice to cover the situation. Official or not official, it is not acceptable to address an unfamiliar person by an abbreviated first name which is commonly used as mode of address by his peers or by people older than him. Even the foreign cultures we copy do acknowledge that formal mode of address is different from informal. The mode of address in this instance is not right and should be admitted as incorrect.
    As a message currently making rounds on social media rightly states….if you make a mistake say “sorry” for nobody ever choked to death from swallowing his or her pride.
