1520 Widows & Divorces Who Participated In Kano State Mass Wedding Get Free Furniture From State Government

A mass wedding sponsored by Kano State Government held in 44 Local Council areas of the state over the weekend.

The wedding ceremony of 1520 divorcees and widows was reportedly sponsored by Kano State government to curtail the rising number of widows and divorces.

Kano State Information Commissioner gave representatives of the grooms family N20,000 dowry each.

The State Government also provided the newly married couples with free furniture and other household essentials.

  1. Kano state does this every year. From the caption, “Grooms family gets N20K each as Dowry”, so the government pays the men to marry these women. Do the men chose their brides or the brides are distributed to the grooms by the government? Will this not make the men lazy? instead of them to work hard to make money to marry and support a family they will wait for when their government will “dash” them wife and money. If the government gives them wives and money, will the same government support them when they start having babies? is this not part of the reasons for the almagiris, as correctly noted by Fifelomo?
