Sept 27, 2012 – Akwa Ibom State House Approves N125 Billion Extra Budget
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Thursday passed a N125 billion supplementary budget into law. The request was made by Governor Godswill Akpabio on 4 September to bankroll the payment of enhanced salaries and allowances to civil servants as well as the road construction and other social infrastructure.
A breakdown of the budget showed that N11.88 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditures while N113 .43 billion was voted for capital projects.
The supplementary budget took effect from June 1.
Mr Samuel Ikon, the Speaker of the house, said it became necessary to provide additional services for Akwa Ibom people in the outgoing fiscal year.
Ikon urged the executive after the passage of the law to continue to exercise fiscal discipline in the implementation of the budget.(Pmreports)
