June 17, 2014 – Anambra Governor Obiano Banned Construction Of 5-Storey Building

The new governor of Anambra State Nigeria, Willie Obiano has announced the immediate ban on 5-storey building constructions in the state.

This was made known on Sunday during a visit to the site of a collapsed building on Udi Street in Fegge area of Onitsha South LGA of the state.

Chief Willie Obiano said government action was to check recklessness and the use of substandard building materials by contractors. No death was recorded as one person was reportedly injured at the building which is nearing completion.

He also sent a warning message to contractors using substandard construction materials.

He further warned that any one caught building such structure without the state approval will be sanctioned.

Less than 2 weeks ago, a building under construction collapsed in Onitsha killing 4 construction workers.
