Pro Biafra Agitator Simon Ekpa Released By Finland Police After Arrest!

Simon Ekpa, a former Radio Biafra anchor, was reportedly arrested in Finland two days before the start of the general elections in Nigeria. According to Criminal Investigator Tommi Reen, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Finland conducted a police operation at a private apartment in the centre of Lahti where Ekpa was taken into custody on Thursday.

Tommi Reen, a criminal investigator with the Central Criminal Police, confirmed that a police operation was conducted in a private apartment in Lahti, Finland, related to an ongoing preliminary investigation. However, he did not provide further details on the matter. It is reported that Nigeria had requested Finland to take action against Simon Ekpa’s activities, and last week, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Godfrey Onyeama, met with the Finnish ambassador, Leena Pylvanainen.

The former athlete and legal practitioner based in Finland, Simon Ekpa, is known for making subversive comments against Nigeria and its leadership. He has been campaigning for the Republic of Biafra to be achieved, and his activities increased after the re-arrest and repatriation of Nnamdi Kanu, the founder of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in June 2021. Security and intelligence services have linked his speeches to the kidnappings and murders in the South-East.
