Hollywood & Nollywood Baby Names: Femi Ogedengbe Blasts Nigerians For Insulting Him

Comic Yoruba actor Femi Ogedengbe who named his twins (boy & girl) Hollywood and Nollywood last week has spoken up after critics condemned him for not making sense with the idea.

Hear Femi in his own words:

“Hahahahahahah Nigeria my country! The level of hypocrisy in Nigeria is just too high…..Or how do I explain the attack I and my wife have received on different blogs for adding Nollywood & Hollywood among the names we gave our bundles of Joy : King Praise Micheal Victor Tochukwu Jesuogbo Iyinoluwa Hollywood & Queen Grace
Michelle Victoria Peculia Chimamaka Jesukomeh Opeoluwa Nollywood .

I guess all those who condemned us have been so blinded by hatred that they couldn’t see all other names but the HOLLYWOOD and Nollywood… Anyway thanks for noticing me my wife and our children But what is really bad in those two names?

Yes , there is always two sides to a coin and everything in life is to me like an abstract art work of a genius. It always comes with different interpretations depending on how every one percieve it from there stand point …..

Most people who criticise the names gave their rsason , they said the two industries (HOLLYWOOD & NOLLYWOOD) are synonymous with immorality. And I wonder if they are truely alright at all because if they are normal they will know that despite some of the negative reports from Nollywood, it is safe for Nigerians to declare a Nollywood day because this is an industry that has consistently put our name in the world map and when you are fortunate to travel out of Nigeria, then you will realise we Nigerians are the only people that are not proud of NOLLYWOOD.

If we choose to look inward then questions like ; where and what would have been of names like, Tonto Dike, Mercy Johson, Jim Iyke, Kevin Ikeduba , Odun Adekola, in a country where unemployment is at it highest level. I for one will still be in the back street of Mushin hustling or dead like 35 of my childhood friends who all died between 1990 – 1995 around wuraola in pako Eleja Area because they all decided to take the short-cut (armed robbery). But thanks to Nollywood, I am now Femi Ogedengbe!

It is a pity that people will seat in the comfort of there homes, hide behind the freedom that such platforms as Facebook and all other social network provide to judge the logic behind the actions of people they don’t know.

Here in Nigerian there is a town called Umuagwo & Umueke (descendants of snakes) and you don’t think that is weird enough but some of you whose family names are something around the neighbourhood of Esubiyi, Sango this and Ogun that join in condeming a name that has its origin in such a vibrant industry as Nollywood that has engaged more Nigerian youth in one way or the other and have helped in no small measure in putting smile on our collective faces unlike the Nigeria corrupt politicians who we shamelessly sing their praise ..

In as much as I appreciate everyone who congratulated me and my wife Nkechi Diane, the matter wey dey face Nigeria pass ‘Femi Ogedengbe Name pikin’s Hollywood & Nollywood. Abi na bro’s Boko “insecurity” Haram we want talk about abi na corruption we wan yan….

In my little way I have addressed the issue of corrupt politician in my 1994 movie (Tear of the GHETTO). What have you all done to show your displeasure? Nothing but you wan carry placards to protest my children names.

…..Uncles and Aunts make una park well oh …Long live Nigeria”

Femi to be honest with u, your choice of names is whacky it speaks volume about ur unproductive state of mind

1 Corinthians 8:2 – And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

So brother Femi do not rely on ur own wisdom nor earthly wisdom, i do not know if that name may affect the kids negatively, u just have to be very careful.

The first life time gift from a father to his child is Name

mr femi ogedengbe you should have named them Anini and maheeda. Foolish man. I thought u are a reasonable person. I am sure those children will curse you for giving them such names when they grow up.

I don’t know the reason why people give themselves uneccesary headache over something that’s not their problem, if he likes he can call his children anything he likes, amebo and aproko mind your business abd face your life, you all are not concern about the present situation in the country not to talk of looking for the way forward you are busy doing amebo and too know, may God forgive you for your ignorance, abeg make una leave the man alone and face the wahala wey dey una family.

…..Beauty they say is in the eye of the beholder..I think the man (Femi) makes a lot of sense in his article go through the names again before the last two names (Hollywood & Nollywood)…don’t forget the gentleman is an artist hence the humour in the names he has given his children. I really don’t have a fuse in the names as long as he brings up his children well by giving them, sound morals and good education…
Can anyone tell me the meaning of Davido, Don Jazzy,2faze ,koko master ,Basket mouth and the likes…it is not really the name that matters but who you are and what you stand for.

What is the point of bearing Patience Jonathan and saying to all and sundry “dere riss God oooo,na only U waka com??”

Which one do you want to be? Having a funny name or be a perfect joke with a good name?

…..I have met different people in my life, they include Mr Bin, Mrs Rain, Barry White, Mr Black and Mrs Green they are all doing well and are millionaires in their own right with good morals they are not hypocrites or corrupt individuals like we have in Nigeria….so please, lets leave Femi, and his bundle of joy alone…celebrate with him….just for the records if you have the time go and find out the names of David Beckman’s children and come and say them here.

@ Conscience 1, ur 1st comment here is both 4ny n sensible. I tink u r d only sane person here. D likes of u makes Naijagists tick. Tnx 4 ur comments.
A lot of pple bears meaningless names yet they r accepted in d society w/t raisn eye brows. Do u knw d real meaning of a name lk Linda? It simply mean “SERPENT“ can u beat dat? Yet d numba of ladies wt dt name in d World, if put 2geda can form a complete LG if nt a State.

Nw, who can tell us d meaning of names lk:- Livingstone, Faze, Phyno, I go die, Tiger wood, Ill bliss, Akpako master, Abacha?-(cassava salad in Igbo Land). Some bears d names of certain tree, wild animal, River etc…?
Some bears d name of an ancestral Oracle or masquerade so, I dnt c anytin bad abt d names of dese twins here.
Mr. Femi, may d FAVOUR of God Himself rest upon dese children wt distinctive names dt will make all ur haters hide in shame, (Amen).

I do’nt see any thing wrong in those names. besides, there are other names along side with the names in question. There are diff. worshippers, religion and belief in which a name its being given out of such. like songogbemi, Esubiyi, ogunbiyi, Oluwatobi etc. so my pple I think being in d industry, has been a plus for him and that makes him bilieves so much in d industry. aside all critics, we should note dat all parents have one reason or the other for givin out a name to their children and most time it comes with a good intention ‘cos it is a thing of joy for a child to be born. jux a way of showing ones happiness at that point in one’s life. jux my piece anyway.
